Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was a husband and father, living and working in Houston for 35 years. Yesterday, an ICE agent shot and killed him.

I join the family in demanding a full investigation and have urged ICE to release all body-camera and dash-camera footage, as well as any communications from agents before and after the shooting.

My prayers are with the family and the entire Houston community grieving this tragic loss. His family and Texans deserve answers, accountability, and justice.

18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells boarded a boat with friends on the 4th of July.

Only he didn’t come back.

Nolan was last seen around 3 p.m. Saturday on Horn Island, Mississippi. Roughly 43 hours later, a body was found on the same island. Authorities have not yet identified it. His phone was recovered — separated from him at some point during the trip. His friends said they thought he caught a ride back with someone else. The girl he was with assumed he left with the friends. Two accounts. One missing young man.

We’ve seen this before.

In 2004, Alonzo Brooks, a 23-year-old Black man, went to a party in La Cygne, Kansas. He was one of only three Black men in a crowd of about 100. His friends left him behind without a ride home. His body was found in a creek weeks later. The FBI reopened the case as a potential racially motivated crime, and a new autopsy ruled his death a homicide. No one has ever been arrested.

In 2008, Brandon McClelland, a 24-year-old Black man, went on a late-night beer run in Paris, Texas with two white friends. He never made it home. His body was found dragged and dismembered along a country road. Both men were arrested and charged with murder. The charges were later dropped. No one has ever been convicted.

We will never accept this as normal.

Nolan is somebody’s son.

Somebody’s brother. Somebody’s friend. His family deserves the truth.
