Ladies and gentlemen: India’s most moronic infrastructure project is happening. The pod-taxi in Mumbai - from Kurla to BKC.
₹1000 cr project. Service of 8.85km. Fare per passenger: ₹21/km.
We need to rid ourselves of the delusion that it has anything to do with infrastructure
Mumbai Infrastructure Logic – Episode: “₹9 Crore per Km… For Ducts Nobody Uses”
In Mumbai, we have discovered a new engineering formula.
Build 8-pipe underground ducts under roads at an approximate cost of ₹93,378 per running metre.
That’s roughly ₹9.34 crore for just 1 kilometre of road.
And this calculation does not even include the cost of chambers, cast-iron frames and covers — which push the cost even higher.
Now comes the real comedy.
Despite spending crores on these ducts, they are hardly used and or the utilities still dig the same roads again to lay cables.
So naturally a few questions arise:
• Are these 8-pipe ducts actually needed everywhere?
• Why is there no uniformity regarding the no of pipes needed across roads in Mumbai?
• Has even one cable been passed through these ducts for 100 metres continuously?
Taxpayers fund it.
Contractors build it.
Departments certify it.
But the ducts?
They mostly sit underground like very expensive decorative tunnels.
I have written to the @mybmc Commissioner and @mybmcInfra
seeking a technical and financial audit of this duct policy.

It’s shameful to see an adult, in a responsible seat as that of the Chief Minister to touch the veil of a lady in front of him.
In any other nation, the ruling establishment would have punished such an act, the media would have lambasted this act and the person would have resigned from public life in shame.
Be it a hijab, be it a ghoongat, be it a face mask or be it whatever the lady is wearing, NOBODY has the right to touch her, or to pull it off or force it on.
What’s more disgusting is someone defending the act as “father figure” or a minister saying “touched only the naqab, what if he had had touched elsewhere”.
He must be your father figure, isn’t hers! And if he was, it still gives him no right to do this.
If this is the state of politics, and this is acceptable to you, remember it starts with them but comes to you.
When you don’t raise your voice for someone else facing injustice, thinking it’s someone else, the unjust act will come to you, and you won’t be able to raise your voice.
What a shame!

God. There is a plan to make railway tracks go underground between Churchgate-Mumbai Central - so that the land can be opened for redevelopment.
An ecosystem that builds D+ Municipal roads, B+ Coastal/MTHL, delays Metro - wants to now savage the one infra that works.
The upcoming #Mumbai civic body elections to the country’s richest municipal body the BMC needs some sizeable number of candidates willing to put the localities before personal gain.
Citizens aren’t even asking for beautification, just the basics: footpaths that can be walked on, corners free of encroachments, and durable roads that don’t get dug up repeatedly. A leadership with accountability and vision is the least Mumbai deserves.
