As I watched Bill Gates’ visit to Rwanda from afar, I found myself reflecting on the extraordinary value of genuine partnership.

To our Nordic partners, and to all those who have chosen to stand with Rwanda in a spirit of trust, mutual respect, and shared purpose, thank you. You believed in Rwanda and its people and your partnership has meant far more than financial support. It has been a vote of confidence in Rwanda’s leadership, local talent, and the ability of Rwandans to build lasting solutions.

Watching @BillGates speak so positively about Rwanda’s progress; particularly about the passion, innovation, and determination of our young people was both inspiring and affirming. It is encouraging to see global leaders recognize what many of us witness every day: a country steadily transforming itself through vision, resilience, and hard work.

What gives me even greater confidence in Rwanda’s future is the strong foundation built under President Paul Kagame’s leadership. It is a system that empowers women and young people, and creates opportunities for all those willing to seize them. A nation that invests in its youth and ensures that mothers have the support they need is investing wisely in its own future. That commitment is helping build a society where more people have the opportunity to thrive and contribute.

I was also reminded of the enduring legacy of Dr. Paul Farmer, @PIH @ughe_org whose life demonstrated that dignity, equity, and true partnership can transform communities. His belief in working alongside people; not simply for them remains one of the most powerful lessons in global health and development.

To our Nordic friends and partners, thank you for showing that long-term commitment, trust, and collaboration create meaningful and sustainable impact. Your confidence in Rwanda strengthens our determination to innovate, create opportunities, and continue building solutions that can inspire others.

As I reflected on this visit, one thought remained clear: the most enduring progress is achieved when partnerships are built on mutual respect, shared responsibility, and confidence in one another’s potential.

To those who still view Rwanda through the lens of outdated assumptions or continue to see Africa primarily as a recipient rather than as a contributor : The time has come to visit, engage, and witness firsthand what Rwanda has become. See the innovation, meet the young entrepreneurs, walk through our communities, and experience the institutions and partnerships driving progress. See, too, where challenges remain and the deliberate efforts underway to address them. Form your conclusions based on facts, not perceptions.

Rwanda welcomes honest observers, thoughtful dialogue, and constructive collaboration because there is no better way to understand our journey than to experience it firsthand. Our story, like that of any nation, is still being written, but it is a story best understood through engagement, openness, and a willingness to see both our achievements and our aspirations.
