This song, “Sāṁson kī mālā pe simarūṁ main pī kā nām,” is Mira Bai’s. She was a great Vaiṣṇavī, a pure devotee of Lord Kṛṣṇa (God). With every breath she was remembering her Prāṇanātha, Śyāmasundara. That is the real process: satataṁ kīrtayanto māṁ yatantaś ca dṛḍha-vratāḥ. Not sometimes, not in the stadium for two hours, but always.

Also, Mira Bai did not sing for Hindu-Muslim-Sikh unity. She sang because she had no other business except Kṛṣṇa.

Anyone—Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian—if he actually chants the name of God with love, he is welcome. But first he must know who God is. Kṛṣṇa is his original name. Mira Bai knew that. That is why her song is still living after five hundred years, while the shows come and go.

Therefore, if you like this song, sing it properly. Sing it with the understanding that pī means Kṛṣṇa, not some vague beloved. That will be actual tribute to Mira Bai, not to the concert.
