If you're taking to the streets tonight to demand justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and so many others, know how to protect yourself from police surveillance.
The First Amendment doesn't allow you to fire tear gas at protesters for a photo-op.
It doesn't allow you to spy on protesters.
It doesn't allow you to attack journalists.
It doesn't allow you to punish critics.
We need real police department reform. Every police officer involved in a killing must be held accountable, and those found guilty must be punished with the full force of the law. Every killing of a person held in police custody must be investigated by the Department of Justice.
Mr. Floyd’s death is a heartbreaking tragedy. My heart goes out to his family and the Minneapolis community, which is suffering greatly right now. I hope to see justice served and that we can move toward healing as a nation.
Small businesses and their employees drive our economy. We must step up and act quickly to help them survive this emergency and go on to thrive in the future.
