Sometimes, I am almost overwhelmed by the type of honesty, loyalty, and industry that is so rampant in Northern Nigeria. If you are a Mutanen Arewa, I beg you, from the bottom of my heart, to please retain your pure, undefiled, and praiseworthy culture. It is a thing of pride not just for Nigeria, but for the Black Race.

Do not lose heart to the rhetoric from influential voices in the West. This is their time, and perhaps God, in His infinite wisdom, is using it to test you, so that, like gold that attains perfection after refinement from fire, you will emerge as an even more sterling people. But this too shall pass.

Their time is now. Arewa's time is forever!

What shall, however, not pass is the quiet and dignified grace of Arewa that marks you out as a people of utmost good faith and intense love for God and each other.

Being born an Arewa and then a Nigerian is one of the most extraordinary things that could happen to any individual. Do not let anybody, no matter how powerful, make you feel otherwise.

Being called a Mallam, even when some erroneously think it is an insult, is one of the highest compliments anyone can give me. Or you!

In terms of historical greatness, intrinsic worth, and natural intellect that does not lead to pride, you, Arewa, whether Muslim or Christian, are unmatched by almost any people on Earth.

My investigation has confirmed that Muslim Muhammad Yusuf, recently arrested in Chad, is the son of Boko Haram’s founder.

Muslim was leading an ISWAP cell when he was captured with five others. His photo looked uncannily like Muhammad Yusuf’s, but that alone was not proof. So I spoke to people who knew Muhammad and his family before Boko Haram’s rise to see if any of them knows Muslim.

One close family friend was emphatic: “Yes, he is his son. He was two or three when they launched their insurgency. He is the son of Bintu, Muhammad Yusuf’s first and eldest wife.”

Muslim’s uncles also confirmed it. The timeline seals the case. Boko Haram’s war began in July 2009. If Muslim was two or three then, he is now 18 or 19 - exactly what Chadian authorities reported, and what his face suggests.

Chadian authorities reportedly arrested him after a Nigerian intelligence tip-off. The arrest came in the same week Nigeria announced the capture of the two top leaders of Ansaru, the Boko Haram offshoot tied to al-Qaida, and the head of the Mahmuda Group that's unleashimg terror in parts of North Central Nigeria.

This marks a turning point. For the first time, the head of a major terrorist faction has been taken alive. That is no small feat. Nigerian intelligence deserves credit.

But there is no room for complacency. The same energy must now be turned on the bandit warlords ravaging the North West and North Central. They, not Boko Haram, are today’s biggest threat to lives and livelihoods. Taking down their leaders - by arrest or elimination - will cripple their networks, prove that the Tinubu administration means business and begin to restore public confidence in the state’s ability to protect its citizens.
