Looking forward to presenting virtually at #ipos2022 later today during the survivorship session. I'll be talking about the lived experience of being on a supportive self-management pathway following treatment for early stage breast cancer.
Very engaging talk from @warner_niki about the lived experience of a lynch syndrome diagnosis. Particularly with a focus on the benefit of well positioned PPI. @BPOSUK#bpos2022
Fascinating talk by Zahida Ramzan-Asghar about the taboos that exist around cancer, particularly in the BAME community. This impacts time to diagnosis, service provision inc. appropriate supportive options, and familial/peer support. #bpos2022
As @Stephthepsych points out, risk prediction models also hold inherent biases and we can end up in a loop of barriers preventing people from accessing the most appropriate care #bpos2022
Really interesting presentation from Prof Eila Watson about the engagement with, and availability of, psychological support to haematological cancer patients. Low levels of staff training and perceived patient barriers or fear of being seen as 'not coping' #bpos2022@BPOSUK
@Afaf_Girgis reminding us that the choice of digital/paper based PROs should be based on individual need and not pre-defined assumptions of group accessibility #bpos2022@BPOSUK
📣Read all about it - a new paper focusing on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on post-graduate research students @BPOS_students https://t.co/Z3QX6cE1D4
More training needed for video call software. Non-verbal cues were also important to both clinicians and patients, the lack of these limited a natural flow of conversation over the phone e.g. turn taking.
We found participants generally felt remote consultations preserved confidentiality and prevented unnecessary trips to hospital, but some fundamental elements could be improved e.g. ambiguity of late/missed calls.
We have a new review of published QoL measures and outcomes in advanced/high risk cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. Impacts for this cohort are largely unexplored. There is a clear need for targeted exploration of patient need in this area @SussexSHORE_C https://t.co/T4H7TXsPJo
