Lots of wrong info out there: My office absolutely has jurisdiction to prosecute violations of the mandatory reporting law. But we are a PROSECUTION office, not a police agency. It's up to police to investigate & then, if they feel it's warranted, submit a case to MCAO to review for charges. @PamKirby

@ryanscottborman You have not - our investigators work to support already-filed cases. The investigations they do conduct are unique situations. Mandatory reporting law violations are investigated by the police.

It seems like whether crimes were committed is a different question from the administration of the laws/policies, and children/schools could certainly benefit from the latter.

Brenda Rivera Estrada* has been indicted for a rollover crash on that killed her 9-year-old daughter. The case was initially furthered to gather additional evidence needed to file charges. Misinformation was circulated online that MCAO “declined” charges. This was never correct.

A warrant was issued, and Rivera Estrada was transported from ICE custody to the Maricopa County Jail, where she is being held on a $250,000 cash bond.

Connor Burgess was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of Organized Retail Theft.
