Letter to a mother of a down syndrome adult child received from the HSE. Wtf is happening to our country are we starting to abandon the people who need us most now.
I've never lived on farm. But if it wasn't for money from the Common Agricultural Policy my parents would have had to emigrate again in the 1980s.
As a carpenter he put in fitted cupboards, windows and doors for scores of farmers in the area. None of this would have happened without money from the CAP flowing in to the area that I live in. My father and mother subsequently spent this money in local businesess such as Super Valu, hairdressers, clothes shops, mechanics etc.
Ultimately everyone in rural areas benefit from this money. Varadkar really hasn't a clue what he's talking about. Nothing new there.
Shane Rothwell, from Blanchardstown, Co Dublin, contacted several hotels across Ireland in an attempt to book a one‑night break. Not one could provide a ceiling hoist, which he needs to transfer safely from his wheelchair to a bed.
Mr Rothwell, who has cerebral palsy, told the Irish Independent: “I was surprised. I knew it was bad but I didn’t think it was this bad. A €200 stay becomes €1,000 when I have to hire a hoist and pay two support workers.”
The disability activist said the process was “mentally challenging”, adding: “I felt there’s no place for people living with disabilities in this world. Why do we have to go an extra mile when trying to book a hotel?
“I need to book a hoist and if I’m using a manual hoist, I need two support workers, which I have to pay for.”
After compiling a list of hotels unable to provide hoists, he proceeded to contact several taxi companies and, across different dates, couldn’t secure a wheelchair‑accessible taxi.
Ireland is “behind” in “terms of development”, Mr Rothwell said.
“I want to start seeing changes and the Government to be more invested in accessibility,” he added.
As things stand, we’re not treated equally
If disability access and inclusion were prioritised, he said, disabled people would feel “needed and included in society”.
Equality ‘on paper’ means little without real access

Why did it take for me to confront @MichealMartinTD outside the Rochestown Park Hotel to get something done for Katie. Why is is when he gets @BernardGloster involved are they all sweetness and light and now want to do something for Katie. This shouldn't be the way.

In Ireland, we used to see the land as a body.
A living, breathing form.
Every hill, every curve, every place—part of us.
But colonisation didn’t just take the land.
It took the meaning.
It took the names.
Let me show you what we’ve lost👇
Kneecap is not the story, that’s true
But we should still be talking about a young Republican from a working class background who’s done well for himself and given back to his community having his reputation tarnished by the British state for daring to speak up against genocide

Dropped my bag of limes in dunnes and let a little “my liiiimmmeeesss” out and the poor fella who helped picked them up looked at me like I was certifiably mad. He thought I was even crazier when I tried to explain
