@MarkFergusonMP Why didn't the Labour Council fix it in 2020 when they turned it in to a cycle lane for 24 hours then reopened it and just ignored the issue. Sorry, but Martin Gannon should hang his head in shame.
@IainDale@Jacqui_Smith1 I had tears on my drive home tonight. You kept me sane as a working parent trying to home school in the pandemic, have been company on my Saturday morning dancing drop offs and have seen me through parenting, working in local government and divorce. Thank you for all you done 💔
We are so proud of our city 🖤
There was a lot of concern across the city that we would experience disorder and violence tonight.
Instead we saw a Newcastle united by love, hope and pride in our city.
This is our City. A City of Sanctuary 🤝

@IainDale@Jacqui_Smith1 It was beautiful and fitting and the perfect tone. Unfortunately I was not wearing water proof mascara as I was listening on my drive into work 😭. Found you during the pandemic and never missed one yet. You will be fabulous Jacqui. Tyfayd.
HOT TAKE FROM EXIT POLL:
Starmer said he had to scale a mountain to win. He’s just scaled Everest and taken off into orbit. This is an astounding win. He’s gone from the worst result since 1935 and come in with the second ever biggest Labour majority. He’s bettered Attlee in 1945 (147) and Thatcher in 1983 (144)
This is a landmark moment. It’s been half a century since any Labour leader other than Tony Blair won a majority for at the ballot box. There will be a whole generation of people who can’t remember Labour rule. So a momentous moment, a landmark moment. With this victory, Keir Starmer has a chance to fulfil his ambition fo leading UK through a ‘decade of national renewal’.
But the success is driven too by the empathic rejection of the Conservatives, with the worst ever defeat, eclipsing 1906 when Arthur Balfour return 156 seats in the Liberal landslide. Was just shy of losing two thirds of their seats (benchmark for that 124).
The other point is the rise of the other. The LDs returning to levels not seen since 2005 and Reform could return 13 MPs. Big Q I think is that while Labour’s support is broad, it is shallow too. Has Starmer won a massive majority of a lowish vote share - and what does that mean for the mandate. This is why Labour knows they have to work hard in government to keep those voters that opted for Starmer in 2024 in order to oust the Tories rather than vote Labour in
@Markfergusonuk It's like Xmas eve! We've trusted you're right for Gateshead and you will represent us - even with a non local address on ballot. Please don't drop the ming vase now!
