Executive Director of Welcoming America (@WelcomingUSA), building communities where everyone - including immigrants - thrive and belong. Opinions are my own.
A century ago, my great-grandmother fled present-day #Ukraine w/my grandfather & an infant who perished en-route.
Today, I hold in my heart all who live under threat of conflict, forced to flee. Your rights, your humanity should not be among the things abandoned on the way.
Congratulations all who worked so hard to see justice prevail in this case - especially @NILC and @tnimmigrant and the many brave people who stepped forward to make their voices heard.

Great to be gathering w/mayors at @MayorInnovation#MIPWinter2023 meeting. In a room of such abundant leadership, I can’t help but be hopeful and inspired.
‘When someone chooses to make our community home, flattery — not indignation — should be our response.’
Reflections on our narrative and how we can shift from crisis to possibility, nativism to #welcoming:

Our statement on new #immigration policies announced by the Biden Administration 👇🏻
Access to asylum, to being American, should be based on principles of equality & human rights, not guided by a hierarchy of human value tied to race, origin, class - or political fear-mongering
We are dismayed that the new migration policy announced by the Biden administration yesterday continues to put limits & barriers on people seeking asylum solely based on nationality & entrenches the use of Title 42 to exclude people seeking safe haven. https://t.co/rMvkXjCcHf
As 2022 comes to a close, I want to thank and recognize the incredible team of colleagues and truly wonderful people that are the @WelcomingUSA staff. You inspire me every day with your brilliance, creativity and commitment to a more just world where everyone belongs.
Deeply disappointed by #SCOTUS decision on #Title42. True public health and safety are rooted in human freedom, equality and mobility, not in a vision of an America that limits these based on race, origin and taps fear and racism to drive politics and policy.
My mother in law died this year, but her sarma (stuffed cabbage) recipe lives on in this cookbook. Coming together around food reminds us of our common humanity - which is why this recipe book contains not only heritage dishes, but recipes for a world in which we all belong.
The holidays are a time for people to come together.
Check out our Taste of Belonging #cookbook for delicious recipes from around the world and methods to strengthen our communities across differences!

Dear @TimothyDSnyder:
Today, I found your inspiring book displayed at my Airbnb in a deeply conservative part of Georgia. This small act not only seemed to affirm your thesis, but thrilled my granddaughter-of-Holocaust-survivors heart. Perhaps democracy will survive.
Deeply saddened to hear of yet another killing spree incited by hatred. Let us now all redouble our efforts to create a world where all of us can be safe and belong. https://t.co/sGfH65obK2
