I express my profound closeness to the Palestinian people in Gaza, who continue to live in fear and to survive in unacceptable conditions, forced once again from their own lands. Before Almighty God, who commanded “Thou shalt not kill,” and throughout human history, every person always has an inviolable dignity, to be respected and upheld. I renew my appeal for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a negotiated diplomatic solution, in full respect of international humanitarian law. I invite everyone to join my heartfelt prayer that a dawn of peace and justice may soon arise.
In a new letter to the mayor and Providence City Council, the @RIACLU calls the new Providence police real-time crime center “Orwellian” and urges additional privacy regulations

@DanMcGowan I don’t know Dan- it’s my job to put forward the best option I can and then listen. My neighbors opposed this - nearly 150 residents contacted me since - politicians don’t change their mind publicly because folks are unwilling to admit their way might not be the only way.
@rhodyneighbors has been doing phenomenal advocacy around our state’s housing needs. I’m proud that @RIHouseofReps passed multiple new laws, which NWRI supported, to make housing more accessible + affordable for working families.
Great time at NWRI’s end of session celebration!
If you think it's so immaterial, maybe call a few seniors in nursing homes and explain to them where they'll go next.
Call the mom of a kid with disabilities who won't be able to pay for a new wheelchair.
Call just one person whose life you're going to tear apart.
We’re feeling Inspired by @ZohranKMamdani’s primary win. Let’s repeat it right here in Rhode Island.

For those not getting it: As crazy as it sounds, my tweet represents a fair summation of the theory of power, that - after years of ostensible study of why more things don't get built faster - @ezraklein offered to Jon Stewart re: how the convoluted regs in the rural broadband program came to be. (More on that in my next tweet.)
Rather, the ISPs worked through Rs and conservative Ds to try to make that program unworkable — just as the fossil fuel industry is doing with renewables here.
When you write corporate power out of your narrative you:
1- Offer a framework that makes it more likely that you're going to lose elections
2- Point at actors who are not the primary reason things function suboptimally in most cases
3- Get promoted a ton by the mainstream corporate media and corporate-aligned funders
When are those darned community groups and environmentalists ever gonna get over their procedure fetish, tell their hordes of lobbyists to stand down, and stop blocking clean energy production through labyrinthian regulatory regimes
Major Todd Palatano and retired Sgt. Bob Boehm voted for a 45-day suspension for Sgt. Hanley, arguing he deserves a second chance
Providence Police Commander Timothy O'Hara dissented, and said PPD is now "burdened" with an "unfit individual" on the force

Make no mistake, the SCOTUS decision about birthright citizenship IS ALSO ABOUT *birthright citizenship.* The Court is taking us back to an Antebellum view of citizenship. That way led to war once.

Thank you, Lib, for letting the world know that we in Providence have socialist city council president @RachelRI backed up by so many progressive champions like @MSanchezPVD, @justinroias, Sue AnderBois, and Juan Pichardo. We are proud that our city stands up against ICE gestapo.
Sadly #RhodeIsland is moving in the wrong direction on making public transit viable & reliable for all. Invests in @RIPTA_RI will benefit everyone in the Ocean State by ensuring we all can get where we need to go, building community, protecting our environment, reducing traffic..
Due process, equal protection, and freedom from unlawful searches, apply to all people, not just U.S. citizens. That includes protections against warrantless entry, unjustified detention, and discriminatory treatment by the state. If that bothers you, your problem isn’t with immigrants. It’s with the Constitution you claim to love.
