As the U.S. Senate advanced the Laken Riley Act one step closer to becoming law Thursday, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty released the following statement: 🧵
“The tragic death of Laken Riley is a horrific loss, and my heart goes out to her family and loved ones. If the goal of this bill is to protect public safety, its supporters should know that it will do the opposite.”
Great statement from @HennepinAtty.

As President Biden pardons his son a private citizen — it's worth noting that *literally yesterday* Trump appointed a convicted-felon family member whom he'd previously pardoned to a major ambassadorship. I do not expect that these two stories will garner similar coverage.
This pardon of Hunter Biden better be the first of a huge flurry of commutations. There are so many cases even more deserving than this one that the Pardon Attorney has recommended granting, and they're just waiting for Biden's signature.
I thought this was parody but I don’t think so. Can’t believe they’re still trying to blame problems on a DA who hasn’t been in office for 2.5 years…newsflash: criminal justice reform isn’t the problem.

Thx @chesaboudin et al.
