Normally, if a ball was *this* flat, it'd probably be thrown away. Today, it'll be thrown around a town then up against a millstone.
That's right, it's Shrovetide football time. Turn-up is in 30 mins; follow all the action via @ShrovetideLive.

@RyanHendry94 Recommend Sisu mouthguards personally, as they’re thinner and I’ve found them less intrusive? https://t.co/G5zIn3ge8F
Also would trying to get used to it when not doing the sport help?
If the sport’s quidditch they could speak to their NGB and ask about an exemption?

Tim Luckhurst, resign. Beyond inappropriate choice of guest for a Christmas formal and one that shows @TCHL values his old mates over the students in the college he heads up. Solidarity with everyone protesting.
As a university you need to take action and show intolerance for discriminatory views. Understand how hard it is to hear such abusive and horrific language in a place that is meant to be safe and welcoming. Durham, be accountable, stand with your mottos and students’ rights.
@durham_uni@South_CollegeDU Be accountable. South’s motto is “freedom, equality and global citizenship” - don’t be performative, BE ACTIVE. You cannot give one voice (a voice of inequality) freedom and allow no other to speech freely for their desire and right for equality.
Students are under no obligation to listen to such horrific language, hence their right to protest (A11). Just as this person has freedom of speech, students have freedom of speech to speak out on how hurtful and unacceptable it was to invite that language into the university.
in case you don’t believe me, it says “The exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society”
Students walked out because they refuse to be associated with homophobic, transphobic and other discriminatory comments. Yes you have freedom of speech BUT under the HRA A10, s2, you have a DUTY and RESPONSIBILITY to use it correctly or will otherwise be limited
As a Durham alumnus, the university and organisations within it need to take a long hard look at who gets invited to events. Marginalised students are far more important than reactionary speakers who deny their humanity.
@ek_weeks Second the Chalet School and the Dark is Rising sequence. The Chalet School fandom still has its own separate forum (The CBB) and fic sites (Sally Denny Library, Lime Green Musings (more interactive)) as well as anything you’ll find on AO3.
