My mom passed away recently. Going through her phone, found an old email -

I forwarded her a published paper I was 2nd authour on (to me, cool but nbd) and she sent it to 20+ of her friends, saying "look what my daughter did! WOW"

Just a reminder that the numbers you see from the "opiate epidemic" are all real people who had real lives. Research and policy would do well to keep the individuals in focus.

If I was in the healthcare industry, I'd have access to a high-tech security system. Probably would live in a better neighbourhood. Might be more familiar with my neighbours.

Pro of this, it's good motivation to work harder on my dissertation.

I love academia (as a student) and am dead- set on going into it... But the cost/benefit of not being in the healthcare industry just hit me hard.

At 2 AM, police knocked on our door because our neighbour had their home broken into.
