Oisin Murphy: "I’m guilty of receiving quite a few careless riding bans, which doesn’t help, and I’ve had a lot of trips to Ireland and France.

"But credit has to go to Billy. At 20-years-old, the fact he’s stayed suspension-free since around mid-May is truly extraordinary. The discipline to not make any errors. He has done terrifically, and he is a lovely fella.

"When I finally gave in and realised I couldn’t catch him, I realised he was 18 in front and I would be riding just 15 days in total in the UK between that point and Champions Day, while he would be here every day. It was a weight off my shoulders to stop the chase.

"I messaged him to congratulate him, and I’ve seen him every day since."
