In this week's NFCA edition of Turn Back the Clock, we're highlighting another pitcher Christina Gwyn. Christina played club ball locally for Texas Elite and graduated from Keller High School in 2003 where she played for the legendary 200 win, Moe Fritz. During her senior campaign at Keller who finished ranked #3 in the nation, she would throw 4 perfect games and 8 no-hitters en route to the school's first ever State Championship in any team sport and being named the UIL State Tournament MVP. That same season, she was also named to the NFCA All-Region Team, Texas Sportswriters Player of the Year, and the 2003 Gatorade Player of the Year. Christina was an All-American, named to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram All-Area team in '02 & '03, & a 3x District MVP.

After high school, Gwyn would head off to the University of Texas where her brother (and current UNT Assistant Coach,) Jason was a Grad. Asst. for the Longhorns. While in Austin, in 42 appearances, she would throw 9 complete games and 105 strikeouts as well as earning CoSIDA & Big 12 First Team All-Academic honors. She would transfer & finish her collegiate career at BYU, where she broke every strikeout record, find her way into the school's top 10 in every single career & season pitching category, and throw BYU's first ever no-hitter. As a junior, she would also lead the Cougars to a conference championship. BYU made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances during her time there, losing in the Regional Finals of the Tempe Super Regional to Arizona State in 2007, and in the same round to a Georgia squad that featured another of our region's stars, Sarah McCloud.

After college, Christina would join the high school softball coaching ranks, reuniting with her old coach from Keller, Moe Fritz, as her assistant at McKinney Boyd. The two would lead their squad to the regional quarterfinals in 2012 and 2014. It wouldn't take long for Gwyn to assume her own role as a head coach as she was announced to lead Little Elm High School at the start of the 2015 season. After a stint at Little Elm, Gwyn would return to Keller as the head coach, making it to the UIL State Tournament in 2019, losing to eventual champions, Katy High. Coach Gwyn was named the Texas High School Coaches Association Coach of the Week in May of 2023 & would remain at the helm for the Indians until taking a position as an assistant at the University of North Texas in Denton again alongside brother Jason, where she would work with pitching standouts like Aledo's Kayleigh Smith & Van's Skylar Savage.

Coach Gwyn would return to High School, taking the head coaching position at Grapevine where she is currently gearing up for the 2025 season. In 2013, she was inducted into the Keller ISD Athletics Hall of Fame.
