Wonderful news for Eritrea's football! The national team has welcomed Hesham Yakan Zaki as their new head coach. Born in Cairo in 1962, he brings a rich background, having not only played for the iconic Zamalek but also represented Egypt on the grand stage, including the 1990 World Cup! As a former defender for both Zamalek and the Egypt national team, he has left a legacy of strong family ties—his father, Yakan Hussein, also played for Zamalek and Egypt. With a remarkable coaching career in the Egyptian and Saudi Arabian Super Leagues, Yakan is well-equipped to lead the team to new heights. The Eritrean National Football Team is gearing up for their crucial match against Eswatini as part of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in East Africa, specifically in Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya! This is an incredible opportunity for the team, and Yakan’s expertise will undoubtedly inspire the players. Let's rally behind our team as they embark on this exciting journey! The decision to hire an international coach like Yakan typically reflects the ENFF's strategic effort to introduce new perspectives, modern training methods, and a higher level of professional discipline to the national team. I have been collecting various documents related to Eritrea. I discovered many records detailing how the British, after World War II, destroyed the infrastructure, companies, and most of the industries in the region. Over 7,000 minor and major industries were dismantled; some were sold, while others were relocated to Ethiopia. The primary reason for these actions was to weaken Eritrea. At that time, in 1950, Eritrea was one of the three most advanced countries in Africa, alongside South Africa and Egypt.

[BREAKING] British Foreign Minister spoke to the #Ethiopian foreign minister, Gedion Timotheos, in August informing him : The British Government’s position is that [#Eritrea & #Ethiopia] must pursue commercial access to the sea through peaceful, negotiated means. The #UK does not support aggressive action or rhetoric that threatens a country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The previous Foreign Secretary [David Lammy] spoke to Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister [Gedion Timotheos] in August, when he warned against the risk of miscalculation and encouraged dialogue with Eritrea. Similar points have been made to the Eritrean Government by our officials there."
