Mjölnir- Thor’s hammer ⚡
Mjölnir was the hammer of Thor, one of the best-known gods in Norse mythology.
Thor was connected with thunder, lightning and protection. His hammer was not only a weapon. Hammer pendants were also worn as amulets.
Archaeologists have found many Thor’s hammer pendants from the Viking Age. Some were made of silver, iron or other metals.
The British Museum has a silver Thor’s hammer pendant from the 800s–early 900s. It may have been worn for protection or luck.
The National Museum of Denmark also has an iron Thor’s hammer from around 950–1050 AD.
More than 1,000 years later, Mjölnir is still one of the most recognised symbols of Norse mythology.
