A quote that I find really interesting is: ‘The spirit of self reliance; that’s the act of rebelling against things that are holding you down, which includes your phone, your doubts, and especially yourself
I think Drs or smart people in general are very self critical. You encounter a difficult challenge and you start feeling the problem is bigger than you meanwhile, every problem seemed bigger in the past but here you are. Your ability is not by chance/luck, always remember.
Some People lack decorum even in health settings. Like, how are you chewing gum loudly or pressing phone during your consultation? Then they will complain later when things are lost in translation 🙄
My therapist said: Legitimately self-compassion is the biggest mental health life hack of all time. I'm NOT talking about self-esteem. You do NOT have to like yourself one bit. You don't have to believe that you're a good person who deserves good things. You just have to
To every woman considering surgery: take your seat at the table. 🔪
Surgery needs women! not just as surgeons, but as leaders, teachers, researchers and mentors.
It will challenge you. You may sometimes be the only woman in the room. But your hands are just as capable, your voice matters, and your perspective can change patient care.
Don’t let the perception that surgery is “a man’s field” make the decision for you.
We belong here. And we need more of us. ❤️
Waiting is not easy. We feel exhausted at times, on the verge of giving up. We may even lower our expectations. But we have to press on because only You know when the time is right. Almighty. Keep our faith firm while waiting, trusting You always.
This is such a profound advice.
My HO recently commented that she was surprised I became an SR so young and how did I do it.
I laughed so hard and told her first that looks are deceiving, I'm an elderly woman fr but I also took a 4year detour as an MO while trying to japa else I'd have been an SR before 27 and a consultant in my early/mid 30s.
I then gave her the same advice I'm quoting - Start what you want to do on time, make your mistakes earlier enough. Then you'd have enough time to course correct. Time can be kind but the years fly by very quickly.
There is a lot of medical classism on here, much of it stemming from the misconception that surgery is medicine’s elite specialty. But impact is not defined by prestige; it is measured by reach, quality and lasting effect.
This might be an unpopular opinion but, I think in medicine we focus too much on hierarchies and technical skills.
The doctor you'll be most grateful for is the one who can address your most pressing problems.
Sometimes it's a surgeon, sometimes it's a psychiatrist, or your GP.
