One of the most prolific criminals in all of San Francisco tells @adam22 that “crime in San Francisco is over with” because of Flock cameras + drones. He complains that he can’t even do drivebys anymore.
It’s simple: when the risk of getting caught is too high, crime plummets.
A woman was found dead before dawn near Temple TX. By that evening, her suspected killer was in handcuffs, run down by everything from bloodhounds to drones.
Cops are called to a home and find her there. Texas Rangers take the case, quickly name a suspect and put out word on his car. Shortly after, a Flock license plate camera catches his car driving by and alerts police within seconds. With his exact location in hand, officers can head straight for him, sparing other drivers from traffic stops and other people from suspicion.
Officers race to the spot, where he trades gunfire with them, then runs for the woods.
A DPS pilot circles overhead and keeps him in sight, drones keep eye on him through the treetops. Down in the brush, riders on horseback follow tracking dogs working his scent until they catch him.
Police tools, from dogs to horses to drones to ALPRs, help police catch dangerous people faster while leaving law-abiding citizens alone. That’s good for public safety and for civil liberties.
@YourHornedGod@a16z@ManhattanInst I don’t think they have bets on whether there’s a layoff or not. They engagement farm to stir up controversy on topics to drive up buzz around placing adjacent but unrelated bets. It’s technically not illegal, just unethical.
@KaceeRAllen This is completely false. Flock offered employees a fully voluntary separation option a couple weeks ago, none of it is mandatory. Employees who opted to move on were offered a generous pay package, if they chose to do so. Not a layoff.
