A 12% → 18% GST hike risks jobs, MSMEs & India’s textile legacy.

The 18% GST on ready-made garments priced above ₹2,500 is a severe setback for India’s apparel industry.
This directly impacts wedding, festive, and ceremonial wear, where quality & hand made products rarely cost below ₹2,500. It threatens regional as well as national markets, undermines MSMEs, and puts at risk lakhs of jobs — especially for women, who form the backbone of this industry.

We sincerely welcome and thank the Government for its larger move towards GST simplification, a step that has been widely appreciated across the country. However, this particular anomaly urgently needs to be corrected.

We respectfully urge the Government to reconsider and withdraw the 18% GST on ready-made garments, in order to safeguard livelihoods, sustain markets, and protect India’s textile heritage.

Request @nsitharaman @FinMinIndia that deduction be allowed of medical expenses incurred for self or immediate family from income for ascertaining tax liability - this is not wilful spending & tax reduces capacity to pay medical bills - request from Indian citizen 🙏🙏

Just travelled to Surat and back on the Tejas - the super fast train run between BCT & Ahemdabad. Very pleasantly surprised. Super seats, extremely well mannered staff. Good food - and quite a lot of it! TCs too smart and polite. Toilets though could be better and cleaner.

Cotton prices gone up by 250% in just 18 months - garment prices moving up by 50% against normal consumer inflation of 6-7%. Farmers have sold their cotton, so please protect consumers 🙏🙏 - clothing is basic necessity !!! @narendramodi @PiyushGoyal @nsitharaman

Change of GST rates on Garments will increase prices of clothes used by weaker section of society, already struggling to cope with wage cuts, job losses & personal trauma. When Industry yet @ 65% of pre-covid levels. Why hurt 85% to benefit 15%.? Sincere request to reconsider.
