Like the limitations are no Adding Friend (Sub friend can do it), you can't make groups (but can still join them and play like normal), no Market Board (All Market Board items are obtainable through regular gameplay below level 80) and the obvious level cap of 80

FF14 is by far the most "generous" MMO i know 100%
The sub is mostly if you're already post Shadowbringers and some QoL regarding equipment which are all obtainable through grinding by yourself and a lot of stuff are also non issues if you have a friend with the game bought too
