obsessed with this painting by Hélène Delmaire, which inspired this ekphrastic poem from We Contain Landscapes (@Tin_House, 2025). it’s a sonnet that breaks off, with fewer syllables at the last line, bc the speaker is crying . WCL is out in March 🌀
When asked for poetry advice my usual response is: write as a return to the body, don't underestimate your regular way of saying things, if you want to dance a kite in the sky make sure there's a string tied to your wrist.

Tonight at my poetry reading, a child in the audience stood up & read her own poem, & it moved us all. No matter what happens, communities of goodness & humanity exist, & I'm grateful for the spaces that let those communities bloom, & proud to be a part of planting them. Onward.
