From the past 6 months, I’ve been saying the Kamath brothers have been heavily funding the left-wing creators lobby. Here’s when it started and how. It began with SEBI raising concerns over Zero One Network last yr - an entity that funds creators to “spread financial literacy.”
I once had an interview with Azeem when I was looking for my first job.
I was young, excited, wanting to become a writer.
East India Comedy used to work from a 3-BHK at the time. Sahil Shah had helped me land the interview.
Azeem looks at my CV and the first thing he tells me is - "I have blocked you on Twitter."
I thought it was a strange way to begin an interview. I had never interacted with him on Twitter. We never had even an exchange or any conversation.
So he opens my profile on his laptop, unblocks me (so he can access the Tweets) and then scrolls down and reads a few tweets till he finds one particular tweet and says - "Ah yes, it was this one."
AIB at that time had made a video where they made jokes on cows / gaumutra in the sketch. I had put out a tweet stating that it was easy for comics to make jokes on Hinduism but I've never seen them take such liberty with other religions / faiths / beliefs. And that they were not equal opportunity offenders.
I was asked to 'explain' this tweet. And so I did. And it led to a discussion and argument for over 10 minutes, where I was repeatedly told I was wrong, after which the interview ended. I had applied to be a 'writer' and I was asked nothing about it - what I had written, what I wanted to write, my skillsets and so no. Nothing.
I was too young to be confident or have strong self belief, and I walked out thinking maybe I shouldn't have put out that tweet - it cost me this job.
What I found strange even back then, was that a person much senior to me in the profession, would be fixated on some tweet, and was not open to another opinion or point-of-view that was different from his.
Surely, it would help to have people with different views writing for a news satire show?
I was naive.
The goal is never diversity of thought or opinion.
The view or angle is always pre-decided. All they need is people to further it.
One president is actually unwell. That's the only confirmed illness.
Cyril Ramaphosa is 73. He came to Delhi for BRICS on the 12th and 13th, flew home on the 14th, and by the 16th his office said he'd been booked off from public engagements because he wasn't feeling well.
His doctors told him to rest.
His spokesman, Vincent Magwenya, said the President came back from the summit and was not feeling well, that he's in good spirits, still working from home, and has asked ministers to cover his events.
No illness named. No diagnosis. No timeline. And nothing at all about India in that statement. It says he travelled, came back, and felt sick.
Then people started adding names to it.
The second one is Paul Mashatile, South Africa's Deputy President, who is also off duty. He had a minor medical procedure and hasn't been seen publicly since July. Yes, July.
He wasn't anywhere near Delhi. His absence started two months before the summit even happened.
People have started including him in this dishonestly.
The third one is the big one, and it's where most of the fuel is coming from.
A man called Wanjun Xie, who runs the China Democracy Party, an overseas Chinese opposition outfit, posted on X that Xi Jinping fainted during the summit.
That Xi refused to be treated at an Indian hospital because he didn't want Indians knowing about his health. That he was flown to Beijing and taken by military helicopter to the 301 Hospital and diagnosed with a severe stroke.
Nobody has confirmed a word of it. No Chinese statement, no agency, no photo, no flight record.
And the summit's own public record says Xi was at the Day 2 plenary in Delhi. If he'd been airlifted to Beijing mid-summit, he couldn't have been sitting there.
So: one real illness, one man who wasn't even there, and one unverified claim from a political opponent is the basis of this tweet.
Yes, that has become "multiple world leaders have reportedly fallen ill."
Reportedly by whom? Nobody checks.
Polymarket chose to put the photo of a sick president on the left. Indian flag on the right. No sentence connecting them. It never accuses India of anything, because it can't.
It just puts the two pictures next to each other and lets you finish the thought yourself.
That's the trick. You can't fact-check an implication.
In reality, a 73 year old flew nine hours, did two days of plenaries, bilaterals, a tree planting, a photo op and a gala dinner, then flew nine hours back.
People his age get wiped out by that. It happens after long conferences constantly.
Thousands of people were at Bharat Mandapam over those two days. Eleven member countries, partner countries, invitees, press, security. Not one other delegation has said anything.
But, this isn't a new thing for India either.
In 2014, days after Mangalyaan reached Mars on the first attempt and for less money than a Hollywood space film, the New York Times ran a cartoon showing an Indian farmer with a cow knocking on the door of an "Elite Space Club" full of men in suits reading the paper. They apologised after the backlash.
In 2021, the B.1.617 variant got called "the Indian variant" across international media for weeks. India objected. The WHO eventually switched to Greek letters that May specifically to stop countries getting branded with diseases. It became Delta.
During Operation Sindoor last year, the internet filled up with fake footage of Indian jets going down. A lot of it turned out to be video game clips and old footage from completely different conflicts. PIB's fact check unit was debunking things daily.
And this specific one, it's the Delhi belly joke all over again.
Yes, India has real problems worth criticising. Air quality in Delhi is genuinely terrible. Food safety enforcement is patchy. I've written about both.
But this isn't that.
Just ask yourself 3 questions when you see something like this.
Do they name anyone, or just say multiple? Do they name a source, or just say reportedly? And does their claim survive one simple Google search?
This one fails all three.
So Effiel tower case was made up by racist Frenchs and Indian left to create hate agaisnt Indians and hindus and was entirely false. I hope Hindus who have been throwing hate to BAPS the whole time feel a bit remorse about supporting racist bias
The algorithm is made in such way that recently some brand did graffiti on Indian walls.
The walls had alge so they pressure washed that alge and made their logo and white Christian started calling that shit and it got millions views.
Meanwhile here actual filth is spreading in a multinational tournament, but no views
I get irritated whenever I hear proud Kolkatans referring to their city as the "City of Joy", after the title of Dominique Lapierre's book. This happens all the time.
I doubt whether Lapierre was referring to Kolkata when he named his book. The name is a straight translation of Anand Nagar, a hellhole of a slum where the story is set.
Lapierre came to Kolkata (then Calcutta) in the early 1980s, impressed by the worldwide (free) publicity campaign by Mother Teresa and her little cult that Calcutta was the most f**ked-up city on the planet. Then he looked for really f**ked-up slums there and settled on Anand Nagar.
There was enormous media coverage, extraordinary levels of genuflecting gratitude, and Lapierre was made an honorary Calcuttan because he told the world what a f**ked-up life we led in this city.
The Anand Nagar slum wasn't even in Calcutta. It was in Pilkhana in Howrah. But Bengalis took Lapierre's title and applied it to Calcutta and rejoiced.
Bengalis had felt proud when Mother Teresa told the world how dreadful Calcutta was (Yay! We are the most dreadful city in the world according to Time magazine!) and ran her multimillion-dollar Vatican racket. This book was further international validation. We are the top-seeded Indians in the race to the bottom! That white-skinned author (French! Truffaut! Sartre!) chose us, not Marathis or Tamizhians!
And even today, we continue to greet visitors at the airport with "Welcome to the City of Joy" signs.
It's pathetic.
I see new propoganda of feeling GDP. When your exports growth at 15%, construction is happening everywhere around, entrep. are able to build rockets & design chips, pvt capex announcements grow 50% yoy, rural wage grows@10+%, how else will you feel GDP? More dating options?
Setting aside politics the establishment of the modern state of Israel is genuinely impressive.
The most hated ethnic group on the planet not only established their own ethnostate, not only did they do so in the most contested territory on Earth, not only have they maintained it for 80 years, on top of all that they also successfully revived a language that had been dead for 2000 years, the only case of anyone ever doing so. Probably the single most ambitious nationalist project ever and they actually pulled it off, it's nearly on par with reviving Byzantium in HOI4.

Secret Crisis on infinite multiverse tie in part 34 featuring peacemaker
Let me put it out here, imo the stakeholders inside IITs themselves are often among the biggest contributors to students' mental-health problems
Take one example from IIT Kanpur:
A junior I knew was one of the most sincere and academically accomplished people you could meet. She topped her city in Class 10 and 12, came to IIT Kanpur, maintained a 9.5 CPI, and was selected for a MITACS research internship in Canada.
Three months before leaving, she realized the internship would make her return one day late for academic registration.
She informed the administration well in advance. She kept emailing. She got no meaningful recourse.
She still paid her fees, filled the required forms, and selected her courses on time.
When she returned, she discovered that her entire semester had been dropped.
She then spent nearly a month writing to deans and the Director, involving the student body, and fighting to save herself from a semester drop that could have delayed her degree.
Her mental health was badly affected during all this.
Because of whom?
This was a student with a 9.5 CPI, sent abroad for a prestigious research internship, being penalized despite doing everything responsibly.
If this can happen to her, imagine what happens to students who are average or already struggling academically.
And then there are people inside the system whose treatment of struggling students deserves much more scrutiny. Let me point fingers to atleast one of those idiots here
Talk to students or alumni who have interacted with S. K. Sh** in the Dean of Academic Affairs office in IIT Kanpur. There are countless stories about the way he has spoken to students, particularly those lagging academically
I was lucky enough to never have to deal with him personally, but I have witnessed remarks from him that I found deeply demeaning and have heard many similar accounts over the years
In fact, I challenge you, the reader to see if you could bring one positive story about the said person
The thing is, most people don't speak up
Students don't want conflict with the administration. Ordinary alumni may feel nobody will care. Successful alumni often have incentives to remain on good terms with the institute for awards, recognition and institutional relationships
I mean, even I do not want a conflict with my alma mater. Just yesterday, I emailed them for a letter which I needed to submit somewhere, why would I want to spoil my own terms
And even if there are the braver ones, alumni usually see a heavily sanitized version of campus life. It's only when you sit down and hear stories, you get to know things
But yeah, when IIT administrations talk about student mental health, they should also examine their own role in creating that stress
It's easy to say that some students were "weak"
Almost nobody asks who, or what, made them weak
Simply put, Australians were scared of a whitewash at the hands of Bangladesh. They did not want to offer them a fair pitch. Now, next time Australians travel to Bangladesh, they should be paid in kind. A dust bowl. Where all Australian wickets fall in one or two sessions!
