Every democratic in the NC General Assembly voted AGAINST a $1,700 federal tax credit that would give families access to tuition, tutors, and special needs supports.
What are we to do when our elected officials no longer have OUR best interests at heart?
NOV. 3, VOTE THEM OUT
Advocates urged an amendment of HB 696. The items they want amended are actually the first real movements towards accountability.
This program was never meant for lifetime membership. It was meant to be a bridge for families in troubling times to have support when most needed.
This week on State Lines @JordanP_Shaw@MariaforWake@mikefor35 & @knreynolds04 discuss NC’s state budget bill framework, teacher pay, the Ratepayer Protection Act, license plate scanners and more!

Among the many things learned in the 8+ hour House Oversight hearing:
- There were 13 reports made to the home about Dominique Moody
- CMPD responded to the home 36 times since 2020 including once to arrest Terrance McKnight Jr for murder
- Chief Estella Patterson says officers did not observe child abuse in any of those 36 calls at the home but did refer the family to DSS for observing something at a different location
- Chief Patterson says they never got a response from DSS
- 12 people in DSS were placed on administrative leave in connection with the Moody case

My full unedited segment questioning Mecklenburg DSS yesterday in @NCHouseGovOps. Staggering incompetence and/or indifference that resulted in the death of a 6 yo child. Thank you @ncspeakerhall and @BrendenJonesNC for supporting @gachesser’s quest for the truth. #ncpol
There are a lot of cowards on the periphery of politics--people with no public exposure, no personal money at risk, and nothing to lose.
Their kids don't have to hear the lying attack ads about their parents. They never have to worry about their neighbors, their employers, or their families being influenced by these lies. They can take anonymous shots with impunity at those of us who care enough to step into the arena and put our names behind our ideas.
These cowards deserve mockery. And Dane, who is one of the most thoughtful people I've ever met, rightfully calls one of them out here.
North Carolina lawmakers spent more than eight hours demanding answers from Mecklenburg County officials after a state review found repeated failures that preceded the death of six-year-old Dominique Moody. #ncpol#ncga https://t.co/iRf3lZpRZM
We must hold agencies tasked with protecting the most vulnerable members of our society to the HIGHEST standards.
Today’s hearing on the tragic death of six-year-old Dominique Moody exposed serious failures and a system that has continually ignored warning signs.
Those failures demand answers, and we must hold those responsible accountable.
