Cauvery Calling, in collaboration with Perur, and Dharmapuram Adheenams Launches Temple Forests and One Village One Peepal Tree Project. Our deep gratitude and regards for the Perur and Dharmapuram Adheenams, leading the way in reviving Temple Forests in Tamil Nadu.
The world’s largest farmer-driven ecological movement – Cauvery Calling – is aimed at revitalizing Cauvery River in southern India and transforming the lives of 84 million people.
Envisioned by Sadhguru nearly three decades ago, the movement seeks to simultaneously solve the three critical problems of the tropical world – depleting water, dwindling soil fertility, and the impoverished state of farmers.
The movement enables farmers to transition to tree-based agriculture. This improves soil fertility, increases water retention, and boosts their income by 300-800%.
Till date, Cauvery Calling has supported over 239,838 farmers and enabled plantation of 124 million living trees and these trees can sequester up to 71 million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere. It also provides end-to-end support to make the tree-based agriculture self-sustaining by educating farmers, ensuring quality saplings, technical assistance, and market linkages.
In 2022, the Government of India announced a project to revitalize 13 major Indian rivers with a budget of 2.5 billion US dollars based on Cauvery Calling’s recommendations.
Cauvery Calling’s vision is to support 5.2 million farmers to plant 2.42 billion trees. This will lead to a 12 trillion liters increase in water holding capacity in Cauvery basin, increase water flow in Cauvery by 40%, infuse over 322 billion USD in the rural economy.
Several United Nations and international bodies such as UN Environment, UNCCD, and IUCN have recognized Cauvery Calling’s impact and its potential to be replicated across the tropical world, and have inducted Cauvery Calling in various global forums.

Every tree is a small-scale natural water dam. It prevents floods during monsoons by holding back water, and releases it during summer to keep streams and rivers alive. One tree can store 3,800 litres of water every year.
Now imagine 2.42 billion such reservoirs across the Cauvery basin - that’s 9 - 12 trillion liters, enough to reduce both floods and droughts.
This is how we can restore Cauvery to her historical flows.
This is Cauvery’s Calling. 🌊🌱

Restoring the sacred Rivers of Bharat to their rightful glory & abundance is the first step towards re-creating a prosperous and peaceful Nation. Water & vegetation cannot be separated - there cannot be one without the other. It is wonderful that Uttar Pradesh is leading the way with focused Action to restore our Rivers. Congratulations & best wishes to everyone involved in this mission. This must be replicated across Bharat. Let’s make it happen. -Sg @narendramodi@myogiadityanath@smcgup@rallyforrivers
On June 22, over 1,500 farmers gathered in Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu for an inspiring event on “Alternative Agriculture for Great Income.”
Inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister for Dairy Development, Mr. Mano Thangaraj, the event was buzzing with ideas, energy, and a shared vision for tree-based farming.
A massive thank you to every farmer who showed up and stood up for a greener, more prosperous future! 💚🙏

Just as every strong tree begins as a tender shoot, large-scale transformation starts with the right foundation. That’s why Cauvery Calling nurtures over 10 million high-quality organic saplings in-house each year.
Cauvery Calling has demonstrably improved the lives of farmers by promoting a shift towards profitable and sustainable tree-based agriculture. Adopting tree-based agriculture has the potential to boost a farmer's average yearly earnings by 3 to 8 times in 5 to 7 years.
Each timber tree is expected to generate an average of ₹10,000 over 15 years, unlocking a green economy worth billions. This translates to long-term financial security and improved livelihoods for farming families.

Truly a landmark step! Economy and Ecology are not opposing forces, they can and must grow together. This reform paves the way for a greener, more prosperous Bharat, rooted in the well-being of our soil and our farmers. #CauveryCalling#treebasedagriculture
This is the kind of sweeping reform we need to double our farmers’ incomes, increase green cover and Save Soil of Bharat. The new Agroforestry rules will incentivize farmers to profit economically from growing trees on their farmlands. It will also assure them of legitimate markets across the world, further incentivizing farmers toward tree cultivation. Congratulations to the Environment Ministry on this landmark, progressive reform which will demonstrate to the world that Economy & Ecology can complement each other with great all-round benefits for the soil, water, our farmers and the Nation. -Sg @moefcc@byadavbjp@cpsavesoil@rallyforrivers #CauveryCalling
