Myth: Engaging in governance requires money or political connections.
Fact: Participating in governance does not require wealth, influence, or political connections. Simple actions such as attending community meetings, asking questions, raising concerns, and staying informed are rights that every citizen can exercise. While access to networks and information can sometimes shape influence, meaningful civic engagement begins with awareness, persistence, and collective action.
Young people do not need a title or special connections to contribute to governance. Informed and active citizens play an important role in shaping decisions and strengthening accountability within their communities.

On Friday, our volunteers in Wa, with support from the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), organised an outside broadcasting in the Kperisi Electoral Area on the topic: “Youth Voices Matter: How Can Young People Contribute to Development Without Holding Political Positions.”
The discussion explored how young people can contribute to community development through active citizenship, volunteering, advocacy, community engagement, and participation in local governance processes even without holding political office.
Participants highlighted the need for more spaces where young people can be heard, involved, and informed about decisions affecting their communities. Some also shared concerns about wanting to contribute to local governance but not knowing where or how to begin.
Youth voices matter, and meaningful development becomes possible when young people are empowered to participate.

Myth: You have to be invited before you can attend a community or District Assembly meeting.
Fact: Many community engagements such as town hall meetings, public hearings, and durbars are open to everyone, including young people. Instead of waiting for an invitation, young people can take initiative by attending open forums and seeking information on how to engage.
Active participation begins when young people show interest in issues affecting their communities.

As we wrap up initial consultations for Yoma Ghana, @cmghana engaged stakeholders in Assin South District together with @UNICEFGhana and partners to explore practical pathways for empowering young people through soft skills development and digital opportunities.
The engagement featured an inception meeting where we simulated how the Yoma platform works, and in-depth consultations with cooperatives, religious leaders, the National Commission for Civic Education, Ghana Education Service ,Business Advisory Centre, and young people. Key discussions highlighted youth interest in agriculture, opportunities in agribusiness, and the need for soft skills such as branding, and digital marketing.
Stakeholders also identified challenges such as limited access to digital tools and unstable internet connectivity, while emphasizing strong local support systems and government-led initiatives that can be leveraged.
Together, these insights are shaping a more inclusive and locally relevant Yoma in Ghana, designed to empower young people and reduce vulnerability to child labour.

Today is World Health Day.
Health is more than a personal matter; it is shaped by our environment, the systems we rely on, and the science we trust. From the food we eat and water we drink, to the medicines and vaccines that protect us, science guides every step in keeping communities healthy.
This year’s theme, “Together for Health. Stand with Science.”, reminds us that protecting health requires collaboration across people, animals, plants, and our planet. This is the One Health approach: the health of one depends on the health of all.
At @cmghana, we believe a healthier future begins with knowledge, action, and inclusion. By sharing what we learn and supporting science-led solutions, we can shape policies and practices that benefit everyone; today and for generations to come.
Invest in science. Protect communities. Care for the planet. A healthier future starts with us.
