Yesterday, I delivered my statement in the Senate Chamber in Michif, the language of the Metis Nation.
I hope this historic occasion will show Michif children across the Homeland that there is a place for them in every decision-making space, even the Senate of Canada.
In 1890, the Tariff Act came into place in the United States. It placed tariffs on imports of up to 50%.
While touted as a way to build American industry, there was also the hope it would force an annexation of Canada. It backfired.

I wonder how the implementation of the recommendations from the Systemic Racism in Policing in Canada: Reporting of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security is going. Cause this was back in 2021 to address the rampant racism and RCMP use of force against Indigenous & other racialized groups. Yet there’s a crisis of police violence unfolding right now.
