It is also worth noting Sir Benegal Narsing Rau, the Constitutional Advisor to the Assembly. He prepared the initial draft of the Constitution in 1947, which Dr. Ambedkar’s committee then refined, expanded, and debated.
The Constituent Assembly
The entire process involved the Constituent Assembly, consisting of nearly 300 members from various backgrounds. Every article was debated, amended, and voted upon. Figures like Jawaharlal Nehru (who moved the Objectives Resolution), Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (who led committees on Fundamental Rights and Minorities), and Rajendra Prasad (the President of the Assembly) played foundational roles.
Dr. Ambedkar himself was often humble about this, once noting that the credit belonged to the "Constitutional Advisor" and the collective wisdom of the House. His genius lay in synthesizing these diverse views into a cohesive, transformative legal document.
