{مَنۡ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوۡ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤۡمِنࣱ فَلَنُحۡیِیَنَّهُۥ حَیَوٰةࣰ طَیِّبَةࣰۖ وَلَنَجۡزِیَنَّهُمۡ أَجۡرَهُم بِأَحۡسَنِ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ}
"Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do".
LESSONS:
1. Righteousness is open to both men and women. Allah makes no distinction between male and female in access to spiritual excellence and divine reward. What ultimately gives a person worth before Allah is sincere faith expressed through righteous conduct.
2. Faith and good deeds belong together. The verse connects īmān with righteous action. Faith is not merely something professed by the tongue; its fruits should appear in our worship, character, family relationships, work, honesty, compassion, and dealings with others.
3. The “good life” is greater than material wealth. Allah promises the believer who acts righteously a ḥayāh ṭayyibah, a wholesome and blessed life. It may include lawful provision and worldly comfort, but more importantly, it includes contentment, tranquillity, dignity, gratitude, and a heart that remains connected to Allah even during hardship.
4. True success combines this world and the Hereafter. Islam does not teach us to abandon this life in pursuit of the next. Righteousness brings meaning and goodness to our present existence while preparing us for an infinitely greater reward after death. The believer therefore builds the worldly life without sacrificing the eternal one.
5. No righteous deed is wasted with Allah. Acts of worship, kindness to one's family, honest labour, helping the needy, serving society, forgiving others, and resisting what Allah has forbidden may sometimes go unnoticed by people, but never by Allah. He promises to reward His servants according to the best of what they used to do. Therefore, live righteously even when nobody is watching or applauding, Allah sees, records, and rewards.
May Allah grant us sincere faith and righteous deeds, bless us with a good, peaceful, dignified, and wholesome life, place contentment in our hearts and barakah in our provisions, families, health, knowledge, and endeavours. May He make us steadfast in obedience in ease and hardship, accept the best of our deeds, forgive our shortcomings, and grant us a reward far greater than what we deserve. Theme: The hearts of those who approach the Qur'ān and Islam with enmity and hatred, in one and unyielding to learning its truth have been veiled until they let go of their hatred and open their hearts to learning
{وَإِذَا قَرَأۡتَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ جَعَلۡنَا بَیۡنَكَ وَبَیۡنَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡـَٔاخِرَةِ حِجَابࣰا مَّسۡتُورࣰا (45) وَجَعَلۡنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ أَكِنَّةً أَن یَفۡقَهُوهُ وَفِیۤ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَقۡرࣰاۚ وَإِذَا ذَكَرۡتَ رَبَّكَ فِی ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ وَحۡدَهُۥ وَلَّوۡا۟ عَلَىٰۤ أَدۡبَـٰرِهِمۡ نُفُورࣰا (46)}
"And when you recite the Qur’ān, We put between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a concealed partition.
And We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And when you mention your Lord alone in the Qur’ān, they turn back in aversion".
LESSONS:
1. The Qur’ān is guidance, but guidance requires a receptive heart. Qur’ān 17:45 teaches that when the Qur’ān is recited, Allah may place an unseen barrier between the Prophet ﷺ and those who reject the Hereafter. This reminds us that merely hearing the Qur’ān does not guarantee guidance; true benefit comes when a person approaches revelation sincerely, humbly, and with a genuine desire for truth.
2. Spiritual blindness can exist alongside physical hearing. Verse 46 describes hearts covered from understanding and ears burdened with deafness. A person may possess intelligence, education, and functioning senses yet remain unable to perceive divine truth because arrogance, prejudice, persistent sin, or deliberate rejection has made the heart unreceptive. The greatest blindness, therefore, is not necessarily of the eyes but of the heart.
3. Tawḥīd is a decisive test of faith. Allah says that when He alone is mentioned in the Qur’ān, those who reject the Hereafter turn away in aversion. Pure devotion to Allah challenges every form of misplaced spiritual dependence, worship, and ultimate allegiance. A believer must therefore ensure that Allah alone occupies the highest place in the heart and that worship is directed exclusively to Him.
4. Repeated rejection of truth has spiritual consequences. These verses warn us against becoming accustomed to dismissing divine guidance. When truth repeatedly reaches a person but is rejected through pride or stubbornness, the ability to recognise and embrace it may gradually diminish. We should therefore respond quickly to correction, seek forgiveness when we err, and continually ask Allah to preserve the softness and receptivity of our hearts.
5. Understanding the Qur’ān is itself a blessing from Allah. These verses should make believers grateful whenever the Qur’ān touches their hearts, corrects their conduct, increases their faith, or brings them closer to Allah. We should never take this receptivity for granted. Rather, we should constantly pray that Allah removes every veil from our hearts, grants us sincere understanding of His Book, and makes the Qur’ān a source of guidance, transformation, and salvation for us.
O Allah, strengthen our Tawḥīd and make our devotion sincerely and exclusively for You. Make the Qur’ān the light of our hearts, the guide of our lives, the reformer of our character, and our companion until we meet You. Never allow our hearts to turn away after You have guided us. Forgive us, our parents, our families, our teachers, and the entire Ummah, and admit us by Your mercy among the righteous in Paradise. Āmīn.
