Victor Davis Hanson just delivered one of the sharpest analytical pieces he's ever done — and it starts with a declaration: the Democratic Party as America knew it for 50 to 100 years is gone.
What replaced it is not a center-left coalition. It is, in his words, a full-blown socialist revolutionary party. And the people actually running it are not Chuck Schumer or Hakeem Jeffries. They are Jasmine Crockett, James Talarico, Zohran Mamdani, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders.
The ideology is Marxist at its core — a binary world divided into oppressors and oppressed, with the Democratic Party positioned as the enforcer of mandatory equality of result through radical taxation, open borders, and the dismantling of legal standards. You can see it in no cash bail. You can see it in sanctuary cities. You can see it in the Mamdani administration's day-one revocation of antisemitism enforcement in New York.
How did the party of Harry Truman and JFK become this? VDH lays it out in two words: open borders and globalization.
Open borders delivered 53 million foreign-born residents — the largest in American history. Globalization created two Americas: the coastal elite whose audience expanded to seven billion global customers, and the manufacturing and mining class that was outsourced offshore. The Democratic Party chose the coastal elite and the recent immigrant, and abandoned the white working class entirely — not just abandoned them, but created a vocabulary of contempt for them. Clingers. Deplorables. Irredeemables. Chumps. Garbage. Peter Strzok texting about them smelling up Walmart.
VDH makes a point that deserves to be amplified: the wealthiest ethnic minority in America today is Indian Americans. Mamdani — who talks constantly about racial equity — is himself a multimillionaire whose parents are multimillionaires. The Marxist oppressor/oppressed binary doesn't survive contact with actual demographic data.
And the old Democratic Party? The 1992 Clinton agenda — closed borders, legal-only immigration, strong unions, juvenile criminals tried as adults, balanced budgets, strong national defense — is essentially the Republican platform today. Any Democrat who espoused those views now would be called a heretic.
The result is a party shaped like a dumbbell: vast globalized wealth at the top, a mass base of poor recent arrivals at the bottom, and nothing in the middle. The American working class — the Hubert Humphrey, JFK, Truman constituency — has been written off and replaced.

🚨 The widely used sugar alternative erythritol could be sabotaging your health.
A new study shows it erodes the blood-brain barrier and inhibits the body's natural ability to dissolve blood clots.
A new study from the University of Colorado suggests that erythritol, a sugar alcohol common in keto-friendly and sugar-free snacks, may directly damage the blood-brain barrier. By exposing cells to levels typically found after consuming a single sweetened beverage, researchers observed a spike in oxidative stress and the death of critical cells responsible for guarding the brain against toxins. This disruption shifts the body’s delicate chemical balance by reducing nitric oxide and increasing endothelin-1, causing blood vessels to constrict dangerously and potentially starving the brain of essential oxygen and nutrients.
Beyond physical vessel damage, the sweetener appears to sabotage the body’s innate defense against strokes by blocking the release of tissue plasminogen activator—a natural "clot-buster" that dissolves blockages before they can trigger a medical emergency. These laboratory findings align with large-scale human observational data showing that individuals with high erythritol levels are twice as likely to experience major cardiac events. While regulatory agencies currently deem the sweetener safe, these results prompt a serious re-evaluation of the long-term health trade-offs associated with popular sugar substitutes.

New data shows FSD is ~8x safer than the average human driver.
With FSD: just 0.19 crashes per million miles — statistically like driving for 100+ years (two lifetimes) without a major incident.
The average human? Nearly 2 serious crashes per million miles.
That’s not incremental. That’s exponential. #Tesla
$NVDA $MU $SNDK $LITE (Axios) Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is "close" to cutting business ties with Anthropic and designating the AI company a "supply chain risk" — meaning anyone who wants to do business with the U.S. military has to cut ties with the company, a senior Pentagon official told Axios.
The senior official said: "It will be an enormous pain in the ass to disentangle, and we are going to make sure they pay a price for forcing our hand like this."
Why it matters: That kind of penalty is usually reserved for foreign adversaries.
Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell told Axios: "The Department of War's relationship with Anthropic is being reviewed. Our nation requires that our partners be willing to help our warfighters win in any fight. Ultimately, this is about our troops and the safety of the American people."
The big picture: Anthropic's Claude is the only AI model currently available in the military's classified systems, and is the world leader for many business applications. Pentagon officials heartily praise Claude's capabilities.
As a sign of how embedded the software already is within the military, Claude was used during the Maduro raid in January, as Axios reported on Friday.
Breaking it down: Anthropic and the Pentagon have held months of contentious negotiations over the terms under which the military can use Claude.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei takes these issues very seriously, but is a pragmatist.
Anthropic is prepared to loosen its current terms of use, but wants to ensure its tools aren't used to spy on Americans en masse, or to develop weapons that fire with no human involvement.
The Pentagon claims that's unduly restrictive, and that there are all sorts of gray areas that would make it unworkable to operate on such terms. Pentagon officials are insisting in negotiations with Anthropic and three other big AI labs — OpenAI, Google and xAI — that the military be able to use their tools for "all lawful purposes."
A source familiar with the dynamics said senior defense officials have been frustrated with Anthropic for some time, and embraced the opportunity to pick a public fight.
The other side: Existing mass surveillance law doesn't contemplate AI. The Pentagon can already collect troves of people's information, from social media posts to concealed carry permits, and there are privacy concerns AI can supercharge that authority to target civilians.
An Anthropic spokesperson said: "We are having productive conversations, in good faith, with DoW on how to continue that work and get these new and complex issues right."
The spokesperson reiterated the company's commitment to using frontier AI for national security, noting Claude was the first to be used on classified networks.
Another Anthropic official told us: "There are laws against domestic mass surveillance, but they have not in any way caught up to what AI can do."
For instance, the official said, "AI can be used to analyze any and all publicly available information at scale. DoW is legally permitted to collect publicly available information — so-called 'open source intelligence' — including everything posted on social media, public forums and online news. That's always been true, but the scale was limited by human capacity."
"With AI," the official added, "the DoW could continuously monitor and analyze the public posts of every American, cross-referenced against public voter registration rolls and demonstration permit records, to automatically flag civilians who live near military bases, have criticized military policy online, own firearms, and attended rallies."
The stakes: Designating Anthropic a supply chain risk would require the plethora of companies that do business with the Pentagon to certify that they don't use Claude in their own workflows.
Some of them almost certainly do, given the wide reach of Anthropic, which recently said eight of the 10 biggest U.S. companies use Claude.
The contract the Pentagon is threatening to cancel is valued at up to $200 million, a small fraction of Anthropic's $14 billion in annual revenue.
Friction point: A senior administration official said that competing models "are just behind" when it comes to specialized government applications, complicating an abrupt switch.
The intrigue: The Pentagon's hardball with Anthropic sets the tone for its negotiations with OpenAI, Google and xAI, all of which have agreed to remove their safeguards for use in the military's unclassified systems, but are not yet used for more sensitive classified work.
A senior administration official said the Pentagon is confident the other three will agree to the "all lawful use" standard. But a source familiar with those discussions said much is still undecided.

How efficient is MiniMax M2.5? We benchmarked on 8xH200 TEP8 with @vllm_project . At a reasonable 10-25s TTFT, M2.5 is able to sustain ~2500 tok/s/GPU throughput. For decode, it's still possible to reach ~20 tok/s/GPU throughput at a strict 20 tok/s/user interactivity with 10K+ context!
OpenAI bought OpenClaw
Your initial gut reaction might be anger and rage, but I promise you are mistaken.
This is a win for EVERYONE involved (including you):
• OpenClaw remains open source
• The team gets way more resources to build incredible products and advance the vision of OpenClaw
• OpenAI gains an incredible builder (Peter Steinberger)
• Get the biggest PR boost ever
• They are finally viewed as 'Open'
• Get millions of people signing up for expensive ChatGPT plans to plug into OpenClaw
• Connect their name to the most powerful AI tool ever made
• Peter Steinberger's entire bloodline never has to worry about money ever again
OpenAI will NEVER close source OpenClaw or end the project. It would be brand suicide. They have no option but to keep it open source.
Their play here is clear: incentivize using OpenAI models for OpenClaw. Get a massive reputation boost. Hire the smartest builder in AI.
This will lead to WAY more revenue for OpenAI and even more importantly: gain the favor of the millions of people who adopted OpenClaw. This will be the biggest PR win in the history of AI and make Anthropic look like closed off walled garden authoritarians for banning people the last month.
Expect faster OpenClaw acceleration, ChatGPT plans BUILT for OpenClaw, and an AI tool that will only continue to dominate the world.
This is a win for everyone except Anthropic.
Sam Altman confirmed that ClawdBot /OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger is joining OpenAI to build personal-agent technology.
Steinberger and OpenAI are exploring a foundation to keep the open-source OpenClaw project alive.
On Lex Fridman’s show, Steinberger said he’d been spending $10-20k a month of his own money to run OpenClaw and saw partnering with a major lab as the fastest path forward.
I've decided to upgrade my existing 2018 Mac Mini w/a decent M4 Pro and will repurpose my 2018 for my wife and I with our own agents on it. Should be plenty of power for a while anyway. We do look forward to building a couple of businesses with agents directing sub/agents.
