NEW - Family of Erik and Lyle Menendez and Criminal Justice Advocates to Hold Rally, Thursday March 20th
Demonstration, Press Conference Comes as Los Angeles DA Continues Dismissing Erik and Lyle’s Years of Abuse by Their Father
(March 17, 2025) — The Justice for Erik and Lyle Coalition, a family-led initiative advocating for Erik and Lyle Menendez’s release, today announced a rally and press conference this Thursday outside of District Attorney Nathan Hochman’s office. Rally will address DA’s relentless fixation on the past, as he continues to dismiss who Erik and Lyle are today. The event will feature family and criminal justice reform advocates and comes after the DA’s motion to withdraw one of the pathways to resentencing and the subsequent postponement of the hearing.
“We made it clear when we came together as a family that we would not give up until Erik and Lyle came home. This has certainly been a rollercoaster journey through the three paths to that ultimate goal. We will continue to remind the District Attorney’s office that they cannot ignore Erik and Lyle’s decades of rehabilitation. That choosing to fixate on statements they made as traumatized young men rather than the undeniable record of who they are today ignores California law which recognizes the profound impact of childhood trauma and abuse.
District Attorney Hochman may want to ignore and silence victims of sexual abuse, but we will not. This rally is not just about Erik and Lyle, it’s about giving voice to the voiceless. If he didn’t want to listen to us before, he’ll certainly hear us now, and many others who see right through his attacks.”

The Truth Will Set You Free!
I spent a few hours visiting with Lyle Menendez over the weekend at the R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility near San Diego.
Lyle was very upbeat and told me that he and Erik are looking forward to their resentencing hearings at the end of March.
Both brothers are focused on preparing for the hearings on March 20 and 21. There will be live witnesses testifying in front of Judge Michael Jesic in Van Nuys.
Lyle told me the witnesses will include staff members from RJD along with some family members.
The resentencing hearings will only deal with Lyle and Erik's prison records and their rehabilitation.
The habeas corpus petition - overseen by Superior Court Judge William Ryan - will examine the new evidence and determine if it might have made a difference in the outcome of the brothers' trials in the 1990s. The new evidence includes the Menendez/Menudo connection which was first revealed in our May 2023 Peacock documentary 'Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed.' Also, the habeas cites the letter Erik Menendez wrote to his cousin Andy Cano in late 1988 complaining about the ongoing sexual abuse by his father, Jose, as new evidence. There is a possibility that Judge Ryan may decide to hold hearings with witnesses to examine the evidence that was not available in the 1990s.
I don't believe L.A. DA Nathan Hochman will file a reply to the habeas petition as was scheduled for Jan. 30. There is no new date set yet for the filing. As I understand it, the two Superior Court judges will make the final rulings on the resentencing and the habeas. There is also a chance that both Lyle and Erik may be required to testify in front of the California Parole Board about their rehabilitation in the state prison system.
Even though they don't have internet at RJD, both Lyle and Erik are very aware of the outpouring of support for them from all over the world. Lyle asked me to thank everybody and send the best from the brothers to the supporters.
The story isn't over yet.
The question was always why.

Menendez Fact:
Erik Menendez spent over eight months in solitary confinement, facing some of the harshest conditions in prison. True to who he is, he still found something to be grateful for—a small window in his cell that let him see the world outside.
