@Jek_Korpen even in story-driven games, gameplay is still an important part (presenting player's choice) you can understand the themes, plot, and the characters
but its still a partial experience, you can comment on those that you picked up on, but not the game as a whole
rare to see someone who understands the concept of compromise.
Some games NEED to be played to be understood, a playthrough or a screenshare simply can not do them justice. and i hate seeing this take constantly be bullied with "muh immersion" memes. I WANNA show s.t.a.l.k.e.r or dark souls to my friends but i KNOW they wont feel what *i* feel when only seeing it.
And other games, you can really just get the full experience through video. and THAT keeps getting dogged on with larping accusations. pretty sure i can
watch a playthrough of "the last of us" and get the full picture, thats just an inherent thing about story driven games
@LioFotia16 or uh piracy and/emulation
but the internet gaming community is so ass that anything you do is pretty much gonna get pushback
pirate the game? they will hate you, don't buy? also hate, buy? also hate
FUCK
@ivyxxs_ I do have a solution
Plunderin' it's how people like us deal with that
Get yer tricorns and bicorns (you could abstain if it's an indie title, but what's stopping you from pirating the AAA game you watched and enjoyed)
no literally. its extremely sad too because although theres definitely games you would better understand with gameplay (shooter story games, open world, etc) theres nothing wrong with watching it at all. Especially if you dont have the resources available to partake yourself
watching a playthrough of a game only counts if there isnโt a guy in the corner and or offscreen reacting to everything every 5 seconds and if you have a controller in hand mimicking every button input the player makes. iโm sorry i donโt make the rules donโt shoot the messenger
@deadhand I got the opposite, I saw some people who did geniunely play the game, but fail to understand the characters, themes, author's intent, and the plot
(coming from a Deltarune fan, plenty o' those)
@deadhand remember, you can be a fan of a media like videogames, but remember, you only know a part of the media not the entirety
your opinion will inherently be lesser because you don't know how it actually feels to make the plot happen, but that opinion shouldn't be disgarded entirely
@deadhand they people really keep seeing shit in black and white on both sides are equally stupid
One side being a classist piece of shit, the other is "Do ya'll think games are just gameplay?"
My Kit Bodega 3D Fan Model is now publicly available on my Gumroad now! I decided to release her a day early rather then tomorrow because she is now fully finished! Be sure to let me know what you guys think of the model!

@modormouth people be arguing (accurately, bitching) whether watching a playthrough could qualify as a fan of that media in particular or not
the other is furry drama
