On this day, because @elonmusk made the hard decision to leave money on the table in Brazil, where free speech is critically endangered, I subscribed to Premium.
This was a decision I was putting off, as this is a pseudoanonymous account, but, well, he already had my phone#.
I wonder how well Bill Nye or Neil deGrasse Tyson would take being gifted a "scientific" themed Miter. Maybe also a "scientific" globus cruciger, to really drive the point home.
I'd rather take my scientific facts from a guy who builds rockets that blow up. Then takes the lessons to make rockets that don't blow up.
Imagine going into a field to do Good Works, but to stay relevant, you have to compromise. A little here. A little there. By the time you're a Fellow, you're so far compromised you meet yourself coming around a corner. Then, someone without your degrees says something obvious, but you have to defend yourself, and your previous positions, like your career and reputation depends upon it. Because they do.
Okay. I have two+ thoughts.
1. Is there some hidden fail-state they see, or intuit, that is causing them to balk?
1a. Is this a fail-state that we should care about?
2. Are they just trying to hold onto a wedge issue for the next election?
Though, frankly, 4 and 5 should be in a different bill from 1-3, but they should both pass. IMO.
IAmNotALizardPerson. Or a lawyer. My home is (well) outside the beltway.
Yes, both names are reasonably common, although not the most common. Just checking for 18 years back... Liam, Jacob, and Noah are all top contenders. Michael held the top spot as recently as 1998, and 2nd place as recently as 2008.
Tom is...familiar? I think I personally know one Thomas.
@effect_motion_x Yes it is. Check this out. https://t.co/tLkP4Ugpqd
The relative lightness of the soccer ball probably helps a great deal.
And, yes, the wind would be a factor.
@effect_motion_x I'm not tired. It looks like it's floating. Whether it's from the shadows creating the illusion in the 2D image, or because it's a Photoshop, I don't know. It looks like it's floating, and the devs need to get on that because it breaks immersion.
@Dr_Singularity I hope you're right, but I'm waiting on the 30-hour work week, still, too.
The PC didn't shorten the work week, it deskilled the worker.
Ah. It's a change in utility. Dogs are LIVESTOCK. WORKING livestock. They, when properly trained, pull sleds and carts, (not so much carts, any longer), herd cows and sheep, protect sheep, people, and homes, retrieve game, track game.
But, for many today, especially the childless, dogs are treated as surrogate children and given the same luxuries one's own child, not an employee, would have.
In many households they've gone from useful livestock, to casual pets, to coddled substitute children.
I think it coincides with how dogs are acquired. Once, you could walk into a pet store and walk out with a puppy. Now, the pet stores don't carry dogs, and you have to prove your fitness to care for one before some shelters will release one into your care. The terminology shifted from "bought" to "adopted".
