@jdwalkerr@mikashaye Black Americans worried Haiti celebrating could eclipse Juneteenth while our rights are being gutted, holidays destroyed, and actively targeted. A time we can really feel it's importance and weight and you're worried about Haiti overshadowing it. Jesus a true nothing argument.
@jdwalkerr@mikashaye I used the right word and it's not bold and uncaring to say where the connection lies. Am I supposed to be intimidated by Haiti celebrating the same day? You want them to reschedule the game? Hold off celebrations till midnight because it's Juneteenth?
Genuinely emotional watching Haiti play again in the World Cup. No nation has been so thoroughly & repeatedly spat on and humiliated by the Western world for the crime of demanding its own freedom and self-determination as them. Seeing them back on the global stage is incredible.
@jdwalkerr@mikashaye You wanted a connection and I said black joy and celebration connects us there is no collapsing Juneteenth. Only people seeing an attack where it isn't, Haiti didn't choose the day. No one is invalidating Juneteenth by being happy to celebrate Haiti too.
@jdwalkerr@mikashaye That's where you're tripping up, no one suggested a merge they're talking about celebrating both. The comparison here and why people are excited is 2 events of black joy happening at once.
@jdwalkerr@mikashaye More like you have a birthday and you find out your cousin's going to college on the same day. One does not attract from another, different reasons to celebrate but a celebration regardless.
@jdwalkerr@mikashaye Black joy and celebration are the connection. Haiti the world's first black republic (who were forced to change their Jersey) back in the cup in 53 years and Juneteenth a celebration of freedom get people excited.
@SoloN0IR@mikashaye He said "...who gone be outside today cause nigga." A celebration of the fact that it falls on Juneteenth a celebration of freedom. Calling FUCKING HAITI a random country in this context with their history is insane.
@OssiBisZumEnde@salingergregor And if they don't you have a horde of drunk people on a highway with trucks that take 5 to 6 seconds to come to a full stop. Putting everyone in danger to see a game.
@OssiBisZumEnde@salingergregor No, this is a major highway with semi trucks and people driving at high speeds. All it takes is one mistake and you have a tragedy, how bad of a pile up do you think that could be?
