The only time I saw real animosity towards the French in English Canada was when Trudeau sr imposed bilingualism on the rest of the country.
As a kid growing up in Eastview (present day Vanier/Ottawa) in the 1960s there was competition not animosity.
But that has subsidied due to multitude of greater problems he ushered in.
