@JamesSurowiecki I think of each encounter you have with an infected person as an independent event with a probability of getting an infection. The 90% efficacy of the trial could be (say) 10 viral encounters with a 1% chance of infection each.

@mattyglesias 2 things: 1st, race doesn’t equal genetic similarity. Two people of the same race may not be more closely related than two people of different races. 2nd, genes & environment interact in complex ways, genetic differences that matter in one environment don’t matter in another.
