FB kids get 1 night a week to PLAY a game they train and practice all year for. Coaches we get Sun-Thurs to do what we love-coach, then Friday!
Don’t take players’ joy. If you yell at a player on Friday night for a mistake - you didn’t do very good coaching them Sun-Thurs
Still can't get over the fact that the son of a Knick who lost out on a ring to the Spurs in 1999, avenged his father 27 years later for the same franchise, AGAINST the same franchise and then celebrated the championship parade with half of the 1999 locker room.
Magic.
Everyone’s focusing on Wemby’s obvious mistake.
But can we take a minute to recognize Jalen Brunson’s awareness in this moment. He sees exactly what is happening in the moment, and puts himself in position to take advantage. Always engaged.
I appreciate @Vol_Hoops head coach @RickBarnesUT’s testimony to his players, the media, and the watching world. He’s right—we need to keep the main thing the main thing and love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
"Being "In it for the kids" means all kids.
Not just the best kids, highly ranked kids or "marketable" kids.
Every kid with a ball and a dream"
- Damin Altizer
Charles Barkley on coaches that coach their guys hard
“Parents & friends get mad because you're getting yelled at, get better parents & better friends."
Travel basketball is turning into vacations for a lot of parents and players. The only players who should be flying across the country to basketball tournaments every weekend are mid-major D1 players and above. Most kids go to college within 1–7 hours of home. D2 and D3 coaches aren’t flying across the country to recruit, and now more mid-major D1 programs are starting to do the same.
Unfortunately, Parents can ruin opportunities for their kids.
As an AD, the growing trend of individualism is making it harder to sustain winning programs. Great teams are built on sacrifice, accountability, and putting the program above personal goals. Championships still come from “we,” not “me.”
Underrated coaching truth:
The best coaches aren’t obsessed with talent.
They’re obsessed with effort.
With attitude.
With toughness.
Because when it gets hard,
that’s what still shows up.
Don’t allow the news to distract you from Jesus.
Regardless of what’s happening in the world, He wins in the end.
Our hope isn’t in politics, it’s in Christ alone.
"This is all about our country. I love the USA. I love my teammates. I'm so proud to be an American”
- Team USA Jack Hughes after his OT game-winner to win gold
This is what the Olympics is all about 👏
There used to be a time when the local paper had every single high school call in their scores with complete box scores for every team. Those times were glorious.
Now you can't even find final scores and have no idea who the best scorers are if you're not all the way plugged in
