@airbagged The funniest thing about Cold War is the twist is that character creator form was what the CIA created when they gave you a new MK Ultra personality. Which means they either turned you non-binary or erased every part of your identity but respected your gender.. in Reagan’s 1980s.
@riteshwriter Interesting - especially considering Gillen’s press pitch was “This sprung out of what I couldn’t do in Immortal X-Men”. Would love to see the full thoughts if you ever write them up
@riteshwriter Do you think it has anything to do with this being pitched as an ongoing series rather than something finite like the other examples here.
@GreatCheshire And I say unfortunately not because it was bad - was a good pitch! Just funny that it was when you put it in the context of all the subversions that already exist out there
@GreatCheshire I teach a university course where students pitch a serious/educational game and one of the best pitches was, unfortunately, unironically this.
A reverse otome-game where the player character needs to learn how to deal with harassment from five archetypes of toxic gamer

Super proud of my PhD student @RantingStant for leading on this fantastic (and very timely) paper examining all the games journalism closures we're seeing at the moment. It's open access!

Unfortunately, I do not know that this article highlights a specific solution or magic bullet to solve this crisis, but my heart goes out to all those affected and I hope to continue this research to try find one.
Very excited to share my first article in Games and Culture has finally been published in Open Access format.
If you have questions about the sustainability of Games Journalism at the moment, this is the paper for you!

Ah damn I have not been online after posting this but I just saw that there’s been more Aussie games press layoffs.
I joked with friends that every milestone with this article coincided with more layoffs (starting with Waypoint) and it’s heartbreaking to see that trend continue
