A few days ago, ruthless NEMA officials - guarded by police and UPDF soldiers raided villages in the Kawala zone. They demolished several houses that had been set up over 30 years ago, claiming they were built in wetlands against environmental law. Later, they went to Makindye and did the same.

Videos then emerged showing apartments being built in wetlands along the Entebbe Expressway. This forced NEMA boss Dr. Barirega Akankwasah to visit the site and issue warnings to the owners of the flats under construction. It later emerged that the property belongs to tycoon Bulwada.

Now, according to reports, NEMA officials have failed to evict Bulwada from the Entebbe wetlands following "an order from above". We now hear that NEMA officials have been ordered to halt all operations until further notice.
