A Sydney council is seeking to protect roughly 70 resident-only parking spaces at its exclusive beaches, following complaints from locals over a proposal to introduce two-hour visitor parking ahead of what will be a hot, busy summer | @woollahramc
External legal advice sought by Woollahra Council found reserving the parks for residents at Camp Cove Beach may be "unlawful", but is now seeking a second opinion following the community backlash.
Camp Cove is expected to draw large crowds this summer due to nearby Shark Beach and Nielsen Park remaining closed.
The exclusive parking scheme would force visitors to park multiple streets away, often requiring them to walk a further 10 minutes to reach the beach.
Professor Marcia Langton has called on the media to "lift their game" and to "not participate in pile-ons on persons who are good and decent people".
Prof. Langton is an advocate for the 'Yes' vote in the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum.
She said daily, published abuse takes a toll, naming Adam Goodes and Stan Grant as leaders who have become targets.
