@akaChivato@JeremyClarkson And God insisted that every Yorkshireman should tell everybody where he’s from, within the first three seconds of any conversation.
Delta's started equipping their entire 240-strong fleet of 737-800s and -900ERs with VCT aerodynamic finlets.
Developed by ex-Lockheed Martin engineers, these 64cm x 6.4cm plates reshape the airflow over the rear fuselage, cutting drag and even calming down some stabilizer vibes by removing old vortex generators. Their tests confirmed 1.2% less fuel burn... small change, but massive impact when you're burning kerosene at Delta's scale.
They're installing during overnight checks and scheduled maintenance in Atlanta. Should wrap the whole fleet in 18 months. Other airlines like Southwest and Avelo are already seeing the benefits.
@Paul92265247@ClarksonsFarm1 Only really posh people had Aircon in their cars back in 76. Like Rolls-Royce people and maybe Jaguar people.
They didn’t have it in Morris Marina or a Vauxhall Viva
@Simon11037949@SimonCalder They were told to expect storms at LHR this afternoon from around 1700h
But they didn’t materialise.
But it’s not just storms at the airport that cause delays
Storms at the destinations or en route cause delays too
This was mainly the problem
@SimonCalder Many flights this afternoon were leaving 3 hours late
This has a knock on effect on the following flights by that aircraft.
Example BA562 to Rome ETD 1855 - departed 2126
Right behind it BA564 to Rome ETD 1950 departed 2128
Glasgow shuttle BA1492 ETD 1855 departed 2209
@SimonCalder It’s not about storms at the actual Airports of LHR and LGW; there were many storms around last night and today , all around the UK and in Europe.
Luton and Manchester also suffered delays and cancellations.
The last figure I heard for Heathrow at 9pm ish was 123 cancellations
