6 long years
What a tragedy that young people have to lose their freedom. Just for the SC to decide whether Bail or Jail is rule under Constitution?!!!
BREAKING | Supreme Court refers to larger bench, its earlier decision denying bail to Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case.
Yesterday, in courtroom no. 6 in the #SupremeCourt, I was waiting for my matter and chit-chatting with a senior advocate just when Ld. Attorney General for India arrived to argue a case. There was a young advocate who was sitting in the first row. The senior advocate I was talking to (who was also standing) requested her to get up for the Attorney General to which she replied, “My senior is about to come. I am holding this seat/chair for him.”
#WATCH | Delhi: Following Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi's appeal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also downsized his convoy, reducing it to less than half.
Visuals of Union HM leaving his residence.
Sr Adv Rajeev Dhavan pauses mid-argument for a candid aside on courtroom culture, taking issue with the growing use of Dr. prefixes: “I hate using the word ‘Dr’. My doctorate was 53 years ago. It was just another degree. I have never signed myself as doctor.” #SupremeCourt
In my life, for the first time, someone asked me to recuse. I have learnt a lot on the recusal jurisdiction. I hope I will give a good judgment, Justice Sharma says.
Kejriwal asks court's permission to leave.
Bench: You argued very well. Aap vakeel bhi ban sakte hain.
Kejriwal: Thank you mam. Main khush hu jo abhi kar raha hu.
Hegde (in a lighter vein): I would say, please don't add to the competition.
Kejriwal: If your honour is attending the programme of a particular ideology, then ek mere mind me apprehension paida hota hai.
Bench: Ki main us ideology ko follow karti hu?
Kejriwal: Aapke 4 baar jaane se mere mind m apprehension paida hota hai ki will I get justice.
Justice Oka is giving the 45th JP Memorial Lecture organised by PUCL India.
Justice Oka: Remembering Jayaprakash Narayan today, I go back to my first brush with his movement — I was 14, reading one Marathi and one English newspaper a day, without fully grasping the moment that would define a generation. JP, a committed Gandhian and colleague of leaders like N.G. Ranga, emerged as the leader of the youth in the 1970s; only later did I realise how much my generation underestimated the depth of his ideas.

BJP-Cong alliance???! Probably for the first time in any part of the country, BJP and Cong have for now at least come together in the Ambernath municipal council to control power and keep BJP ally Shiv Sena out! As is now apparent in Maharashtra , local body polls mein kuch bhi ho sakta hai!🙏
The Aravallis are North India’s climate shield. Their destruction fuels Delhi’s heatwaves, air pollution and water stress. Climate change is not abstract, it is being accelerated by policy silence and ecological vandalism. Ignore the Aravallis, and Delhi will keep paying the price.

Keeping this on timeline for record. Kangana Ranaut, the RW Islamophobe star dancing with Mohua Moita, the left liberal torch bearer - what a crossover performance.
The Constitution of India was never meant to be a souvenir we celebrate once a year, it was meant to be a contract we honour every day.
The Constitution is not self-executing. It survives only if we show up for it.

When I met @Wangchuk66 yesterday, he told me how he spends time with the kids of the jail staff who accompany their parents to work! To the jail staff who ask him about how to bring up children, he gives the simple advice of always celebrating the good the child does more than pointing out their wrongs!
He is enjoying Sri Aurobindo’s autobiographical description of his 1 year detention at Alipore jail, ‘Tales of Prison Life’ that I felt inspired to take for him last time. It was so similar to his case where the most patriotic Sri Aurobindo was accused of sedition! He wanted me to bring a sundial next time as he does not have a watch to know the time and a book on the behaviour of ants!!
An advisory opinion under Art 143 is not binding on the government much less on the court. So what is the status of the judicial order passed by the bench of Pardiwala J? Can a judicial order be overruled by an advisory opinion? Should the Court not have declined to answer the reference by stating that no opinion is called for as there is an authoritative pronouncement already by it? If any party is dissatisfied it could take recourse to remedy as available to any litigant under law. Is the government a special litigant who has the option to get a judgement undone through the Art 143 route? Interesting constitutional questions. Hoping to hear from experts on this!
