The African champions have secured the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup after defeating Al Ahli 2–1 at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, with Nuno Santos scoring both goals.

The victory sees The Brazilians progress to the next stage of the 2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup, carrying the hopes of South African and African football onto the global stage.

We won big this weekend! Emotions are settling down. Here are some key observations I've made and takeaways.
Hugo Broos was onto something, SA players need to go to Europe or rather SA teams must face tougher European teams for the development of SA football. Talent is there but we could definitely benefit technically by facing technically good players/teams. Our league is proper but in order for the national team do well at the world cup we need to learn from top players/teams. Those ex-European players were not easy to play. The quality was too much.

SA players are generally short and small, Sundowns was struggling Aerially and some 50/50 situations. Al Ahly players were pressing hard and would win most of the duels especially in the first half. Height can't change but most SA players need to bulk up more. I now understand why Broos would prefer Foster over most strikers, his height and strength are definitely an asset.

Sundowns needs to work on faster ball rotations. The slow ball movement and the positive duel stats made Al Ahly confident to press hard. But of course, the high press was a blessing for Sundowns given that Al Ahly's player fatigue played a major role in how we got the second goal and how we finished strong.

Based on the above, Cardoso's approach to the game was spot on. Especially bringing in Ndlovu in the second half to get tired defenders busy.

Leon needs to control his emotions and stop trying to buy fouls. We understand his frustration, but he must understand that its about the team winning and not him scoring every chance/game.

The above doesn't take away the many positives, defensively the gents were exceptional in containing Ivan Toney and crew, and how we managed to have full control of the game despite the various challenges and coming up with the impressive result.
