this is insane. i genuinely don't understand why ambitious people aren't shown this lecture before their careers start consuming their entire lives.

clayton christensen spent his career studying why successful companies collapse. in his final class, he asked students to apply the theory to themselves: if you keep allocating your time the same way, what life are you actually building?

he had already seen the answer in his own harvard mba class. everyone looked successful at the fifth reunion; by the 10th, 15th, 20th, and 25th, many were unhappy, divorced, and living far from their children.

work shows you the score immediately. close a sale, ship a product, finish a presentation, earn a promotion, get paid.

an hour with your child may produce nothing you can measure today; it may take 20 years to understand what that hour built. so the next free hour goes back to work, one rational decision at a time.

this is how people build lives they never planned: through hundreds of right decisions that lead in the wrong direction, day after day.

money, titles, and headcount are easy to count. christensen believed a life should be measured by the people who became better because you were there.

he died in 2020.

one question remains: if someone saw only where your time, energy, and attention went this year, what would they think actually mattered to you?

Mumbai rickwala irrespective of which state he belongs or which language he speaks will treat you the same way and handover the exact change back in case you paid in cash. They have their own struggles to manage. Just sit in that uncomfortable seat for 12 hrs and try navigating the Mumbai traffic. I am sure most of us would not even last 2 hrs. Be it rains or mad summers they're always working and doing their job. Most of them are here in Mumbai to make some extra money over what they would earn in their own state. Respect them and in fact help them with making their life less miserable. Money they earn pays for someone's food or someone's school / college fees back home. Imagine cutting of that revenue stream just because they don't speak a certain language. And what will is solve even if they did learn the language. Just some ego satisfaction for someone somewhere. That's all. Dont hurt the poor just because you can. Try doing such with the rich. They can't and they know it. They can't do same in some areas of Mumbai too. A language mandatory rule will make so many household push their children in labour etc if the income stream is lost. Noone will understand that. Just sitting in their castles such rules are made. Every few years such rules come in and they are out into action.

Every day, I see an elderly gentleman selling newspapers at Mandi House. I have a subscription and usually read the newspaper on my phone, yet I still make it a point to buy a copy from him whenever I can. Not because I need the newspaper, but because I deeply respect his spirit. At an age when many would choose to rest, he continues to work with dignity, self-respect and determination.
If you come across elderly people working hard to earn an honest living, please support them whenever you can.

The best way to contribute to nation-building is to be trustworthy and dependable in all your roles: friend, child, parent, partner, sibling, citizen, professional etc. Being trustworthy and honest helps maintain and extend the moral order beyond your own network. You belong to a system of norms and unwritten rules far larger than yourself. Acting with virtue helps keep that system alive. Not being a burden on the state is itself a contribution. My wife bought a Diamond set from @TanishqJewelry in October 2024
The gold went completely black on 18 months just after one year.

We went to the showroom and they said they will get it polished and some gold will need to be added and we will need to put some extra gold.

It can back today. Gold added 0.04 gms of around Rs 500. They made a total bill of Rs 11500 which is ridiculous for a product manufacturing/ quality fault.

We have so much jewellery from this brand. Will need to be cautious in the future.
