@AvQueenBenet @nlinphoto @GenePark@aaja Benet, I'd be happy to engage you offline. The folks on this thread do not appreciate how few Asian American male broadcasters remain. We used to get support & now it's just vitriol.
@GenePark@davidalim@tonykchoi I didn't whine at all. I actually congratulated my opponent. She hasn't even acknowledged me. You do not know about what you're speaking of, Gene. The deck was stacked against us and now people are speaking up. That was the point. And as usual, you're missing it.
@nlinphoto And once last thing, if AAJA is fighting for equity in journalism, don't you think it's reasonable for our board to reflect its membership and its interests? If you make this men vs. women, print vs. broadcast, vets vs. youth, then you misconstrue the intent of the message.
@nlinphoto Nina, the article we linked to shows data from AAJA commissioned study in 2002!! There's been nothing since that time. What aren't you understanding? Things are even worse now. Shocked you keep defending the lack of Asian men in the industry.
@BriannaWu@GenePark I know, Brianna. Gene doesn't even want to acknowledge the lack of minority male representation in media, let alone Asian male representation. It's unfortunate he chooses to use his public platform to have a conversation he could choose to have in private.
@nlinphoto Nina, we are talking about Asian American men. I do not why you are seemingly referring to white men. I could speculate, but I'd rather continue to dunk on Gene. Poor guy doesn't even realize he's marginalized.
@nlinphoto Nina, I'm an Asian American male broadcaster. If you think I'm advocating for more white men ruling the industry, then you are in good company with Gene. Wow.
@GenePark@georgekiriyama Lies? Show us where the on-air broadcasters are on the elected board? Show us where there's a 20+ yr journalist? https://t.co/zvcelW64Zz
I won't even ask you to dig through the male stats. If you're really a journalist, you give credence to the people who call us fake news. #sad
@GenePark Gene, I have a real job, responsibilities, payroll to manage & journalists to mentor. I sure hope you keep crushing it on Twitter. Some of us though choose to fight for even the most misguided among us. And yes, I am going out of my way now to be rude to you. You define my point.
@nlinphoto Nina, do you really think there's a lot of fresh data showing how marginalized women & minorities are in media? Do you know less than 1% of major TV stations are owned by women & minorities & the numbers through the executive ranks are paltry? Please do a much needed story on it
@umiworkshop@GenePark I was asked to run to fight the system. There's no winning in a system that keeps a bulk of its journalists off the governing board deliberately. I'm just one of the few unafraid to speak out.
@nlinphoto @GenePark Nina, do you want my speech to the FCC or Congress fighting for these issues? What would you prefer? P.S. I don't need to own anything. This isn't about you. Gene has proved his ignorance already. And if you think everything is great, Nina, then you should do more research too.
@thehollybible@GenePark Gene, I promise to be extremely condescending to you from now on. We are not friends. You choose to be ignorant. And I choose to show your precious followers how out of touch you are with reality.
@GenePark @nlinphoto Let me know when you go through data at the major networks & discover how many Asian male broadcast anchor/reporters there are vs. Asian women vs. other minorities. I can name all of them in one tweet. You're not understanding the issue, which is not surprising at all.
