Sri Lanka is curbing vehicle imports for three months. The government calls it a protective measure. Economists will call it what it is, panic dressed up as policy. A halt does not protect the rupee

A better solution is to permit Sri Lankans to import vehicles using their own U.S. dollars or foreign currency resources. In that model, the burden of sourcing foreign exchange falls entirely on the importer not on the Government or the Central Bank.

The country would still benefit through customs duties and taxes, while avoiding unnecessary market distortions and black-market pressures. Sri Lanka needs practical, market-oriented solutions that generate revenue without creating artificial crises.

I attended an all party conference convened by president @anuradisanayake. We had a very productive discussion on global tariffs and #geoeconpolitics. FTA,TIFA,WTO. 0-graded tariff structures. Trump is using tariffs to rebrand America why not we use tariffs to forward Sri Lanka.

We have 38 Pres. candidates and @RW_SRILANKA. Besides him, not one from this list stepped up when we were in a crisis. And other than @RW_SRILANKA, none are ready for an economic debate. So, it is clear. @RW_SRILANKA is the only one suitable to drive this country to progress.
