उप्र की क़ानून-व्यवस्था को शून्य करते हुए जिस प्रकार शामली में ल��कप्रिय गायक अंकित बालियान की 18 राउंड गोलियां चलाकर बेरहमी से हत्या की गई है उससे पूरे क्षेत्र में भय व्याप्त हो गया है। मृतक की दुखी माँ के द्वारा अपने बेटे के शव को गोद में रखकर सड़क पर ही शोकाकुल होने का समाचार हृदयविदारक है। जाट समाज ने हमलावारों की गिरफ़्तारी को लेकर सड़क पर ही अपनी माँग बुलंद की है। उप्र का समस्त जाट समुदाय इसे अपने ऊपर प्रहार मानकर आक्रोशित है।

इस हत्याकांड की जाँच राजनीतिक प्रतिद्वंदिता के दृष्टिकोण से भी किये जाने की माँग उठ रही है।

यूपी में मंत्री-विधायक���ं के रिश्तेदारों को नौकरियाँ बाँटने का मामला सामने आया था। भास्कर की पड़ताल के मुताबिक इनमें 55% ठाकुर बताए गए थे। यहां तक कि जांच करने आए अफसर के भतीजे को भी नौकरी मिलने की बात सामने आई थी।

आरक्षण से नौकरी पाने वाला दलित-पिछड़ा आपको तुरंत दिख जाता है, उसकी योग्यता पर सवाल भी उठ जाता है। लेकिन सत्ता, रसूख और रिश्तेदारी के सहारे नौकरी मिले तो ‘मेरिट’ के सारे ठेकेदार अचानक मौन क्यों हो जाते हैं?

सवाल आरक्षण का नहीं, अवसरों पर कब्ज़े और मेरिट के इस दोहरे पैमाने का है।

These days, some people at Jantar Mantar are protesting to end reservation because they believe casteism no longer exists.

But reality cannot be hidden. Most of the videos coming out of this Reservation Hatao Andolan are revealing the true colours of the casteist people gathered there.

Anyone with even a basic sense of caste consciousness would condemn the hostility directed at fellow countrymen over reservations. The very foundation of our Constitution was meant to guarantee dignity and freedom from the old social order. Yet if that foundation has been mocked and undermined for 80 years of independence, it sets a dangerous precedent one where the republic’s founding promise is treated as negotiable.

What surprises me is this: many of my fellow SC, ST, and OBC individuals who found themselves sympathetic to Hindutva politics, and who even amplified its narratives, seemed to feel nothing during the “Reservation Hatao” movement. Perhaps because they believe casteism only exists in “small, underdeveloped, uneducated villages” — never in their own circles.

But you have been insulted, mocked, and ridiculed simply for existing. So look around you now. Look at who follows and supports RHA’s handle.

It’s time to introspect.
