Final: West Bridgewater 58 Cardinal Spellman 59
January 21, 2026. Cardinal Spellman defeated West Bridgewater in a non-league game by the score of 59-58. Cardinal Spellman was led in scoring with sharp and effective shooting by Deon Santos 22 points and Joey Ebian 16 points. Rayzhan Innocent scored 8 points and was a key factor with passing, assists and rebounds.
West Bridgewater was highlighted by J.J. MacLean, who led the Wildcats in scoring with 18 points including 4 (3-pointers). Jag Garces scored 15 points and led the team with 7 assists. Lamar Valentina Jr. rounded out the double digit scoring with 10 points and led the team with 9 rebounds. Ben Stapleton had an outstanding final quarter that helped to key West Bridgewater in a comeback attempt, netting 9 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds in the fourth quarter.
West Bridgewater started the game on fire, scoring the first 7 points to take a 7-0 lead on 4 points by Jag Garces and 3 from J.J MacLean. Cardinal Spellman scored its first points on a 3-pointer by Rayzhan Innocent to make it 7-3. Nick Navin then scored on a 3 pointer for the Wildcats to put them up 10-3. Cardinal Spellman then outscored West Bridgewater 11-4, led by 6 points from Joey Ebian to end the quarter with a 15-14 lead. Cardinal Spellman continued to stay hot as they outscored West Bridgewater 22-8 to take a 37-22 lead at halftime. Cardinal Spellman was led in the quarter by Deon Santos who scored 14 points. West Bridgewater began to claw back in the third quarter as they outscored Cardinal Spellman 14-7 thanks to a 9-0 scoring run at one point in the quarter to end the quarter with Cardinal Spellman leading 44-36. Midway through the fourth quarter West Bridgewater began a furious comeback to close the gap when J.J. MacLean made a 3-pointer to make the score a 5-point game with Cardinal Spellman leading 55-50. After a basket by Cardinal Spellman’s Rayzhan Innocent, the Wildcats J.J. MacLean struck again with another 3-pointer to close the score to 57-53. Then with 31 seconds left in the game Ben Stapleton drilled a 3-pointer for his 9thpoint in the quarter to make it a 2-point game 57-55. Cardinal Spellman’s Deon Santos was intentionally fouled and defied the crowd noise and sank both free throws with ease to put Cardinal Spellman up 59-55 with 12 seconds left. West Bridgewater’s J.J MacLean then netted his third 3 pointer in the quarter to make it a 1-point game 59-58 with 1 second left and then the game expired that ended with a Cardinal Spellman win but a valiant effort from West Bridgewater.

December 22, 2025. Cardinal Spellman defeated West Bridgewater in an overtime thriller 72-67. Cardinal Spellman’s Rayzhan Innocent had a phenomenal game as he scored 36 points to go along with 6 rebounds and was constant lightning making an abundance of big-time striking shots in the game. Rayzhan Innocent made four 3-pointers in the game and scored 7 of his game high 36 points in overtime as the difference maker in the contest. A.J. Dick also had a productive game for Cardinal Spellman with 17 points.
West Bridgewater had an outstanding game from senior captain Jag Garces who led the Wildcats with 26 points and was key in engineering the Wildcats with his power as well as timely plays. Lamar Valentina Jr. also had a strong performance for West Bridgewater with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Lamar Valentina Jr. is having an incredible run to start the season as he made his first 23 shots in 23 attempts until his first miss against Cardinal Spellman. Lamar finished the game against Cardinal Spellman, making good on 8 shots from the field in 9 attempts. So far during the 2025/2026 season Lamar Valentina Jr. is 28 for 29.
Cardinal Spellman took an early lead in the game going out 5-0 to start the game and later led 10-4 with 5 of those points coming from A.J. Dick. West Bridgewater then scored the next 11 points in a row to take a 15-10 lead highlighted by 6 points from Jag Garces and a 3-pointer from Hayden Razza. With West Bridgewater up 17-13 at the end of the first quarter, Cardinal Spellman went on a 7-0 run to start the second quarter and reclaimed the lead 20-17 with all 7 of those points coming from Rayzhan Innocent including 2 from beyond the arc. With Cardinal Spellman up 24-23 West Bridgewater tied the game at 24 on a Colin O’Neil free throw. West Bridgewater later took over the lead 29-26 on a 3-pointer by Nick Navin. West Bridgewater kept the lead from the rest of the second quarter and went into half-time with a 33-31 lead. Cardinal Spellman started the third quarter on a 9-0 run to take the lead 40-33 highlighted by 7 points from Rayzhan Innocent and 2 from A.J. Dick. West Bridgewater then clawed back to reclaim the lead by scoring the next 10 points that made the score 43-40 that was pioneered by Jag Garces who scored 5 of those points including the game tying and go-ahead points. West Bridgewater maintained the lead for the rest of the third quarter and led 48-46 to end the quarter. Cardinal Spellman started the fourth quarter on a 8-0 run to retake the lead 54-48 that was highlighted by Rayzhan Innocent and A.J Dick each making a 3-pointer and a basket by Joshua Volcy. West Bridgewater then got a basket by Dylan Fernandes but, Cardinal Spellman A.J Dick scored next for a 56-50 lead. West Bridgewater then scored the next 5 points on 3 points by Lamar Valentina Jr. and 2 by Ben Stapleton to put West Bridgewater down by one 56-55. Rayzhan Innocent made then made a score to make it 58-55 Cardinal Spellman. West Bridgewater’s Armani Lloret then made a key basket to cut score to 58-57. Then Rayzhan Innocent once again scored to put Cardinal Spellman up 60-57. With 1 minute left in the fourth quarter West Bridgewater’s Jag Garces scored a basket to make it 60-59 and later with 10 seconds left in the quarter Jag Garces came through again to tie the game 61-61 to send the game into overtime.
Cardinal Spellman’s Rayzhan Innocent opened the 4-minute overtime with a score to put the team up 63-61. West Bridgewater then scored the next 4 points on baskets by Lamar Valentina Jr. and Nick Navin for a 65-63 West Bridgewater lead. Cardinal Spellman’s Rayzhan Innocent once again made a huge 3-pointer to put Cardinal Spellman up 66-65 with 2:25 left in overtime. West Bridgewater would tie the game 66-66 with 2 minutes left on a Jag Garces free throw. Cardinal Spellman’s Joshua Volcy (6 points in the game) then made a big basket with 1 minute left in overtime to put Cardinal Spellman up 68-66 and they would not give up that lead again as they won 72-67.
West Bridgewater led after the first, second and third quarters and then tied the game in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime. However, it was Cardinal Spellman’s Rayzhan Innocent’s night as he scored half of the team’s points on an electric performance.
West Bridgewater had two exceptional runs in the game coming from behind on scoring runs of 11 points and 10 points in a row plus were able to tie the game to send the game into overtime showing the heart and determination that this unit displayed.
The loss was West Bridgewater’s first of the season and the win for Cardinal Spellman was their first of the season.
West Bridgewater (3-1) plays next at Fairhaven (2-0) on Friday January 2, 2025, at 6:30 pm.
